History of Daylight savings

Daylight savings time has been around for a long time. How long you may ask. Well it is thought that people used some similar practices thousands of years ago however,  it was started in 1908 in Canada but it never came to the United States in 1918 with the standard time act.

After Indiana decided to join the majority of the country and use daylight savings time in 2006 the only two states that don’t use it are Hawaii and Arizona. On march 15, 2022 the US senate passed the Sunshine Protection act. The act would make daylight saving permanent even through the winter months. This would cause us to have less sun in the morning and more in the evening.

In WWII from February 9, 1942 to September 30, 1945 there was something called war time which was just year round daylight saving time in the United states. This was introduced by Franklin D. Roosevelt.  Time zones were called “Central War Time”, “Easter War time” etc. From 1945 to 1966 there were no daylight savings rules which caused a lot of confusion throughout the country until the uniform time act was established. This gave the country a Daylight savings schedule while allowing states to opt out. There has been only one more year round daylight saving period since then which was during the 1973 Oil embargo.

  • There is more you could have added especially your own personal thoughts about it.

  • Personally, I don't mind daylight savings, but sometimes it throws my days off for a little bit. I believe that we should leave the daylight savings as it is because everyone is used to it already and there is no need to change it.

    • I agree that daylights savings can definetly throw my days off to withch is why I think it should be year round.

  • I like having daylight savings because it tells me that in the winter we have less sun at night but more in the morning. NO I don't because then the time would be way off with the sun because it happens twice a year and then we would be off.

  • I don't mind daylight saving and sometimes I don't realize it. I do think that there are enough reasons just to stop it but it is the way our bodies are already systemed. I also don't know if I agree to do it year-round I think it all depends on the person though.

    • I don't like the time change because it makes me tiered in the morning for a day or two after.

  • I do not like daylight savings time because you have less time to get out and do things since it becomes dark pretty early on in the day. But it's nice having it in the fall since we get an extra hour. I don't think we should go year-round.

  • I don't personally like daylight savings time because it's already dark out pretty early in the day. I also feels like it plays a role in how my sleep schedule is. I overall am just not a big fan of daylight savings time and if we could just put an end to it, although that will never happen.

    • I agree that it is bad because it is dark out in the morning  but I also like having more light after school to do activitys.

  • I do not like daylight savings time because by 6 o'clock it is already dark out. It messes up my sleep and what I do throughout the day. No I don't think that we should to year-round saving we should just stop it all.
