Ebola Virus

Dr. Senga Omeonga and physician assistant Kynda Kobbah were discharged from a liberian treatment center on Saturday after recovering from the virus, ebola. These people were giving this treatment called ZMapp- an experimental drug that’s saved two American lives from ebola.

Officials say that early treatment is key to recovery. Both indicated that they will return to work soon. The WHO says that they were received by liberia’s president after being discharged. A third person who was infected and treated with ZMapp died last sunday. The virus has spread to five countries in West Africa, liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal.

Should they give the people that are infected ZMapp? Why or why not?

  • Again, good topic and well done!

  • They should treat it with caution. There might be some difference in their genetics that helped the two doctors live, but the third didn't have.

  • Good answers, it would make since to give ZMapp to the sickly, they are already dying, so you might as well try to treat them.

  • I think that they should be given the ZMapp because it worked in 2 of the cases that we reported.

  • I think they should try it! It is not hurting them it will only help them!

  • I think they should give ZMapp to people that are infected. They have a 90 percent chance of living anyways, so why not try it? It would be a better chance trying that, then doing nothing at all.

  • I think they should! If it has worked on people in the past, I personally would want to try it if I was infected. If the person has a chance of dying anyway, why not try it if it has a possibility of saving them.

  • Yes, if it can save people from dying and by them being treated, its one less person to spread the disease.

  • Yes, if it'll save people.

  • All of these are great answers on weather or not you should give ZMapp or not! What is another way they could help this disease from spreading?
