Disliked Hair Style= School Bullying

On September 22, Lucas Hull decided he wanted  a new hairstyle, the "faux hawk". To make sure he could have it with the school's mohawk hair style violations he asked the assistant principal who said he would have to see the cut to decide. That night Hull got his haircut and felt really good about it. When he arrived at school the next day he was called over the speakers to report to the cafeteria because the vice principal didn't like it. He was given the choices to either cut it off or go home. Hull said he didn't have much of an option before the vp was going to his office to get clippers. He then cut Hull’s hair in the middle of the cafeteria with over half of the senior class there watching his confidence turn to no confidence at all and they say he still hasn't gained much back.

The vice principal has sense apologized to the student and his family, along with the community. The school also addressed that next time parents will be contacted first and no more actions will be taken on this case.

I think that the vice principal went to far and it was not necessary for him to cut the boys hair off in front of everyone and humiliating him. I understand that the school has a violation with some hairstyles but  I think sending him home or just telling him not to get the cut would have been the better option.

Do you think that this went to far? Do you think schools should have hair style violations?

  • Great job! Good choice of story!

  • Yes they went too far by cutting his hair in front of everyone.  It was wrong and apologizing does not erase the experience.  If the school does have hair violations then they need to make it known so the person understands the punishment.

  • I don't think that the school has the right to do this. If they didn't like it, they could ask him to have it cut, instead of just cutting it themselves. It is a free country and they should be able to do whatever they want with their hair.

  • I don't think a principal should have a say in what people do their hair like. If it is not harming the school, it shouldn't be made a big deal.

  • Really was it really that bad, it was a hair cut. This escalated to quickly and i think the principal should be laid off

  • i think that he went to far. i don't think that schools should have a policy on the way your hair style is. He should of told the kid to get rid of it instead of shaving it in front of the students.

  • I definitely think they went too far-but then again why do they have rules on how you wear your hair in this school?

  • I think they went way too far. Sometimes people's haircuts adds to their personality, and I don't think they should have hair restrictions.

  • i think the vice principal went to far too. no i think they shouldnt

  • I definitely do because this is bullying because he set him up to embarrass him infront of all of the school which was a horrible thing for the teacher to do and is unbelievable that a teacher would do that to a student.
