Concrete that can repair itself?

When a concrete technologist asked Professor Jonkers if it would be possible to use bacteria to make self-healing concrete. It took Jonkers three years to crack the problem -- but there were some tricky challenges to overcome."You need bacteria that can survive the harsh environment of concrete," says Jonkers. "It's a rock-like, stone-like material, very dry." From this material we can create buildings, sidewalks, etc. that will never crack from time and can repair itself.

What do you think of this new found Bioconcrete?

Should the government fund this new found Bioconcrete so it can be mass produced?

  • You didn't reply to any student comments.

  • I think that the government should fund this, because it could change our whole life. Buildings wouldn't become unstable it their foundation developed a crack and less people would fall on a sidewalk.

    • Many peoples' mothers' backs won't be broken as well. This is a good invention

  • I think that this concrete is really cool and its amazing what science can do. I wonder how well this works.

  • I think that it is a really cool thing that they found. I think that the government should.

  • I think its a great discovery and could be very useful in the future. I think they should because it could save a lot of money in the long run.

  • I think the government should fund this. But it has to be worth the price.

  • This is a very cool idea. A concrete that repairs itself? That's pretty cool. It would be worth it if like a building or a sidewalk cracks and it repairs itself.

  • It could also be used to permanently repair older buildings which would be very useful

  • This would help a lot with time and money. People are always repairing concrete when it cracks a lot. I think it would be a good idea. IT would help save up from redoing all of the roads.
