Car Salesman Beaten and Kidnapped

Police in Houston, Texas are currently searching for two men involved in the assault and kidnapping of Jose Martinez, a worker of a Houston dealership, during a routine test drive. Martinez claims that the test drive went south the moment they pulled out of the parking lot. He noticed a car following close behind them and eventually his car and the one behind him stopped. The man in his car hit him, and then the man from the car behind him got out and hit Martinez.

The men then tied him up and put him in the trunk. Struggling, he eventually broke loose of the tape and pulled the emergency release. He began fighting with the two men, and when one dropped their gun, he grabbed it and fired, hitting the shoulder of one of the men.  The two men then took off with the car and are still on the loose.

Questions:

Would you continue working in car sales if this happened to you? Why?

Do you think car dealerships should be prepared for these occurrences?

My Opinion:

I think that if this were to have happened to me, I probably wouldn't continue working at this profession, with a risk like this. I think that situations like this are rare, but definitely could happen again. Should dealerships worry about it? I believe that dealerships in bigger cities should worry about things like this, but small towns shouldn't.

  • Good but all of your comments are done on the same day.

  • I think I still would work but at a different car dealership. I think they always should have a plan in case that happens to them.

  • If this happened to me I would probably be scared to go back to work, if anything I would strictly stay and just do the searching, paperwork, and sales but not go with on the test drives. I think that all dealerships should be prepared for situations like this, like only allowing specific areas for test drives and the workers should have some sort of protection device with them.

  • If this happened to me I would probably work at a different car dealership I would not work at the one that I got kidnapped at. I think that car dealerships should have a plan in case this happens.

  • I wouldn't keep working in car sales if this happened because what if it happened again and you don't get out this time. I also think they should have a plan for things that happen like this.

  • I agree with you. I think that if this happened to me, I would definitely stop working there. If I chose to stay in the city, I would find a different job. But I might move to a smaller town where something like this is rare. I do think dealerships are aware of this and are worried about it. I think this is completely rare in small towns. But could easily happen in big cities.

  • No, if I was kidnapped in the car business I would quit and find a new job. I think they should have a plan for these types of things.

    • I agree. What types of plans should they have for this?

  • I would probably continue working at my job. I would just be more careful who i let test drive the vehicle. I think the dealership should be more prepared for these situations.

    • How would people decide whether they should be able to test drive a vehicle?
