Boys Save the Life of Young Girl

Two twelve year old boys save the life of a little girl drowning in Roman Forest, Texas. Melodie, who is only four years old, slipped out of the house to go play by the creek in the backyard. She tried to swing on a limb, and fell into the creek. Two young boys, who were at the creek saw Melodie and thought she looked like she was drowning. So, one of the boys ran to her and pulled her out of the water. Moments later they went for help, and found Ricky Duke. He was able to contact friends who lived in the neighborhood to come help, and the police. Friends of Duke came with jackets to wrap and comfort Melodie in. The police were able to quickly post Melodie’s photo on social media, and her family was soon found. Melissa Maddox, mother of Melodie later said that Melodie has autism and likes to wander out of the house to go play outside.

Questions:

What do you think could of happened if the boys weren’t there to save Melodie?

What would you do now as a parent to protect Melodie from this happening again?

Opinion:

I believe Melodie would have probably drowned, because she is only four being to young to save herself. She could of maybe tried swimming but that would probably not of been a success. As a parent I would take precautions by thoroughly monitoring her and lay ground rules so it does not happen again.

  • Great job Lauren!

  • If the boys weren't there to save Melodie she probably would have drowned because she doesn't know how to swim. I would watch her a lot more and probably make the creek off limits.

  • Melodie very well easily could have drowned in that creek if those two boys were not there to rescue her. I would definitely keep a closer eye over my kid if I was the parent to Melodie. I would want to supervise anytime she went outside now and make sure she doesn't get hurt or wander off like that ever again.

  • I think that she would have drowned. As a parent I would try to monitor her and make sure she doesn't do it again.

  • I think she probably would have drowned. I would make sure she wouldn't go near the creek or have a better watch on her.

  • She could have most likely drowned. I would make sure she was better watched and I agree with giving more ground rules.

  • Melodie could've died  and that would've been very sad so I bet the family is very thankful that they noticed her. I would make sure that she didn't leave my sight and just put like child proof on the doors.

  • Melodie very well could have died. It's hard to see sometimes how you let your autistic child just wander out of the house, but the mother can't watch her every move. Something as simple as turning around to pick up a magazine and Melodie could be gone. I would maybe invest in an alarm system that notified me when the front door opened.

    • Yes, every little thing the parents do Melodie can just slip away. An alarm system would be a very good idea to notify all times when doors are being opened and closed. It would be an easier way so the parents aren't worried about where she is at all times.

  • She sadly probably would have drowned because she is only 4 and a lot of people can't swim well at that age. I definitely think that the mother should watch her a little better. I mean I get that being a parent is hard and that she needs to take care of other things but her daughter is 4 and has autism you need to get better locks and watch her. It sounds like this isn't the first time it's happened.
