18 Year Old Pretending To Be A Doctor

An 18-year-old man was posing as a medical doctor in Palm Beach, FL. Sheriff's deputies accused him of practicing medicine without a license. According to his website, he was the head of his own practice. An undercover visited Love-Robinson's office and Love-Robinson physically examined the officer and provided medical advice. It led into a two-week investigation which eventually led up to Tuesday's arrest. Love-Robinson said he would not grant any interviews. A Florida Department of Health spokesman, Brad Dalton, said, "When he crossed the lone and started giving a physical and offering to treat the undercover agent, we were able to issue him a cease-and desist for the unlicensed practice of medicine."

My opinion:

In my opinion this is just wrong. This could have seriously hurt somebody in the long run if he would have given a serious medical condition the wrong treatment.  I don't understand how he ever started working as a doctor because it seems to me that you would have to have your medical license right there in hand while trying to get the job.

Questions:

1. Why do you think this man pretended to have a medical license?

2. Do you think this could have seriously injured or hurt some people who came into his office? Why or why not?

3. What should be this man's punishment?

  • Good job Haley!

  • I don't know why anyone would pretend to be a doctor because they are putting others lives at risk and if they did something wrong they could get in serious trouble. Him being unlicensed, of course he could've hurt someone and I think they should find the reasonings behind him doing this before they punish him

  • He could been giving out the wrong advice and could of seriously injured someone. Doctors have to go though so much schooling so the know what they are doing. If you don't know what what u are doing you can give the wrong advice and injure people in the process. I truly think he need to be put in jail for that it is out right wrong and just dangerous. It also needs to be a lesson to everyone who think about doing that.

  • I think he did it as a joke. If someone who came in really was injured, then yes it could have hurt the patient more. I think he should be fined for this act.

  • Honestly, I genuinely think it might have just been for fun. I know this is a goofy example, but remember that Drake and Josh episode where Josh was in the hospital and Drake pretended to be a doctor just because? I really think it may be similar to that situation.

I definitely do think that he could've hurt someone. If he would've diagnosed a patient incorrectly or given and unnecessary/withheld a necessary treatment, the outcome could've been anything from injury to death. Medicines aside, let's not even think about what would happen had he sent someone to surgery.

If he had ever wanted to be a doctor, I don't think he should be able to practice medicine. Medical school should be a no-go for him, and I don't see prison being out of the realm of possibilities for his punishment.

    • Actually, I do remember that episode and never even though of it like that. Your comment at surgery kind of made me laugh a bit, that probably would have been a disaster and caused the patient to pay a significantly unnecessary amount of money.

  • I think the man did this as a way to get money and possibly a way to get away with not being able to get into a school. I do think that this could've hurt or injured somebody in very harmful ways, because he could've led them to have long-term issues with telling them to take or do things that are not good for them. I think the man should have to serve a good amount of jail time and fines, if not more for his punishment.

  • He probably was not able to get into medical school or did not want to wait the time so he thought he would just do it on his own. Yes, he could have hurt someone because he probably does not know the ins and out of everything. He probably does not have all the medical supplies he needs. I think he should be put in jail.

    • I agree that medical school takes a long time and a lot of people do not make it all the way through. That is one reason a lot of people do not go into the medical field, is because of the amount of schooling they have to go through.

  • He should be put in prison for a long time because this is against the law
