12 team expansion in the CFP

Many college football fans are pushing for an expansion in the playoffs, and the NCAA has confirmed that the 12 team bracket expansion will be in effect starting in 2023.

How will this benefit the football teams? Well this could be adding a better chance for the one to two loss teams. Being able to just be inside the top 12 teams will get you a spot in the playoffs. Another thing to look at is the strength of a team's schedule. Who is playing who? How is the win the loss percentage for the teams your team is playing? For example, if you have a really difficult schedule, one or two loses in your season won't affect you as much as a team with an easy schedule.

This past year there was a team that was widely considered the most controversial team to ever make the CFP. TCU was considered a bad team in the playoffs because there schedule wasn't difficult and yet they ended up having as many losses as teams outside of the top 10 in rankings.

How will it work? To make the playoffs, the top four conference champions, followed by a combination of the top six at-large bids and two highest-ranked remaining conference champions.

In my opinion, the expansion could be positive because more players get more of a chance to get the trophy. I also think the extra games will delay the draft a little bit because of the extra time it takes, and there is an increased risk for injury.

How will these affect players and their bodies?

Do you think the top players stay for bowl games?

In your opinion, is this good or bad for college football?

  • Good topic choice and well done overall Jonas! I do think your summary could be a tad longer.

  • I think that the expansion of teams in college football is a great idea. It gives teams more of a chance. Maybe they should lower the amount of games they play to help their bodies. However, this also gets them ready for the NFL.

  • I think the new 12 team playoff expansion will have a good affect on college football. Because it will expand their views and create more revenue since they're adding more games. But I don't think it will take a lot of affect on players bodies since it's only a few games more at most.

    • I agree, but again the chance of getting a major injury is small but never zero and you never know. Adding the few extra games could have more injury or less players declaring for the draft because of injury or something that could affect them in the added games.

  • I don't think that this will have much of an effect on the players and their bodies because it's only like 3 more games. I think that the top players should stay for bowl games because it makes it more entertaining, but I can understand why they don't. In my opinion, I think this is a good thing for college football because it lets more teams have a chance to win it all.

    • I agree with everything you said except the players always have a chance for a torn ACL of something major. If there was an injury that bad it could drop them farther back in the draft or even have them go undrafted. Or there could be a carrer ending injury like Ryan Shazier's paralyzing hit, or the Damar Hamlin injury more recently.

  • I think that the players will be okay to play.  It is just adding one more week to the college football playoff.  I am excited about the addition. I think that it will bring more excitement.  I hope that it will be like march madness.  The top 12 teams will have a chance to win.

    • I agree on the first statement, but the two more games brings a lot of trouble for players that are declaring for the draft. I will enjoy the addition because the out of 12 teams that all have great players, you will never know who can come out on top. Plus the 1, 2, 3, and 4 ranked teams will probably have a bye at first so you never know what can happen.
