The Story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard

Gypsy Rose was born on July 27, 1991 in Golden meadow, LA. Early in Gypsy's life she was found to be very sick. Growing up it was always her and her mother, Clauddine (Dee Dee) Blanchard. Gypsy’s whole life her mother had told not only her but doctors, family members, and friends, that Gypsy was sick with a variety of diseases. Dee Dee would lie about symptoms to make Gypsy seem more sick and in worse conditions. At a very young age her mom started saying Gypsy had sleep apnea. From then the diagnosis' started building. She claimed Gypsy would have seizures, asthma, leukemia, and complications with her hearing and vision. Gypsy had multiple surgeries done and medications prescribed wrongfully. From all the medication her teeth had rotten and been pulled. Gypsy had her head shaved by her mother and was put in a wheelchair and feeding tube when she needed none. Dee Dee would also add in medication that numbs your legs used for dogs so that it made the wheelchair seem believable. Dee Dee suffered from a mental illness called Munchausen syndrome. Eventually, Dee Dee stopped seeing doctors as test started to come back negative seeing as it was all made up.

Dee Dee played her part as much as she could because of the attention she was receiving. They gained a lot of money from the community and people around them for medical expenses. They even received a free house. In 2011, Gypsy and her online boyfriend she met at a convention planned to run away. She got tracked down by her mother and brought home to her computer completely smashed and wouldn't give her access to her bed. In 2015, she regained her access to the internet and found a new boyfriend (Nicholas Godejohn) on a Christian dating website. She told Nick everything her mom had been doing to her and they had made plans to kill her mother. He came to the Blanchards home and stabbed Dee Dee while Gypsy hid in the bathroom with her ears covered. They made their escape to Wisconsin, but they were met by police. The police became aware of her mothers body because Gypsy had made a post on facebook saying "That b---- is dead", hoping her body would be found.

Gypsy pleaded guilty to second degree murder in 2016 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Godejohn was charged with first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Gypsy Rose got released early in December of 2023 and is now 33 years old. Gypsy has said that she is happy she is out of that situation, but is not happy her mother is dead. Gypsy claims she is happier than ever now and with her new boyfriend, they are expecting a baby in January 2025.

In my opinion, I think that what Dee Dee was doing was very wrong and that she did deserve to be punished but not murder. I think Gypsy could have done something better like call the police for help instead of just killing her. I think that Godejohn got the right sentence for what he did. I also think that Gypsy got a good amount of sentencing even though she didn't finish out her full sentence.

    • Yes, murder was not the answer and she couldve gotten mental help or even put in prison but stabbing her was not the right choice.

  • I think its a messed up situation all around but Gypsy should of got more time so we didn't have to see her on reality shows/tiktok getting pregnant and getting divorced and re-married already despite not even being free for an entire year that stuff is stupid and annoying and she seems crazy. I think DeeDee should've had Gypsee taken away from her a long time before the murder and sent to a mental health facility and maybe Gypsy would've been raised to be a better person.

  • I think what Dee Dee had done was horrible and if I was in that situation and thought nothing else to do, I would probably kill her too. Although Gypsy has been proven to have the same tendencies as her mother, she still thought that the only way out was with her death. (Fight or flight) I also believe that Nick didn't deserve his sentencing to be as high as it was. He should be punished, but he was manipulated and didn't exactly know what he was getting into. Nicholas was autistic and just though Gypsy wanted his approval with the death of Dee Dee Blanchard.

  • Do you think Dee Dee deserved to die? I do I feel like she did very wrong and should be murdered although they probly could have just called the police and things would have been better although i feel if he did the police would have just killed her anyways
