Self-driving cars, also known as autonomous or driverless cars, are vehicles that can drive themselves without human input. They have been gaining popularity due to advancements in technology. These vehicles use a combination of sensors, cameras, radar, and artificial intelligence (AI)  to travel without a human operator.

Self-driving cars can bring many benefits to roadways and transportation industries, such as reducing accident rates. Reports have shown self-driving cars to saven society around $800 billion each year. Reduced strain on the healthcare system, being able to transport those who cannot or choose not to drive, as well as being electric, therefore environmentally friendly are all other ways that self-driving cars have benefited society.

On the other hand, those who have jobs that require driving will no longer be needed with self-driving cars. Fast food delivery and Uber drivers would also be replaced. While self-driving vehicles may save a lot of money in the long-term, the cost is overwhelming. It could cost around $250,000 to own a fully autonomous vehicle. As new technology matures, cost is expected to come down. Another disadvantage is machine error. If any software or part of the vehicle fails, it can put the driver in more danger than if the driver was to personally take control of it.

What do you think about Self-driving vehicles?

Do you think they are helpful or harmful?

  • I think that they're both helpful and harmful. It is nice to have a vehicle that doesn't need a driver and it could prevent road accidents but on the other hand it is taking a lot of people's jobs away because they are not needed anymore.

  • I think self-driving vehicles are the most laziest thing possible. Driving shouldn't be done by a robot, but a persons own reaction. Self-driving is going to cause accidents and peoples lives with malfunctions. A robot cannot detect everything, and realisticly speaking, not better for people who live in areas not on google map, or the map hasn't been updated.

  • What do you think about Self-driving vehicles? I think that they are a good idea because it would be able to remove drunk driving and crashes if there is a specific lane for the cars because the cars could talk to each other and make sure they don't crtash.

  • What do you think about Self-driving vehicles? I think that they have a lot of potional and the car will be able to talk to each other cause us to be able to transport faster and safer Do you think they are helpful or harmful? I think that they hurt us for now until they take over the raod

  • I think self-driving cars are going way too far, and are not reliable. Whatever program they have in these cars will never be as smart as a person actually driving a car. I think putting these cars onto the road will make them very dangerous. I do not think they are helpful.
