Should The US Have Daylight Savings Time?

Daylight savings time has been around for over a hundred years. During World War I, Germany was wanting to find a way to save energy. In 1916 they started using daylight savings time.  After the US found out about daylight savings time, the US wanted to start using it as well. The US eventually started using daylight savings in 1918. We are one of the 70 countries that still use daylight savings time today.

Daylight savings time does not only save energy, it also makes it so there are longer daylight hours. With this, people can do a lot more things in the day. It will be easier for people to get to work and come home because it is light out. It can also be safer for people because light makes it easier to see what is going on in their surroundings. Daylight savings is also good for the economy. When it is light outside, more people are going out and doing things like spending money for groceries or shopping. Lastly, it makes people have more active lifestyles. With this, you see more people outside doing different activities and playing sports.

Daylight savings time is not always beneficial. One con of daylight savings time is it is bad for people's health. There are some people that die every year because they are stressed by daylight savings time. When people get stressed they get headaches and some people even have heart attacks. Another thing daylight savings time does is drop productivity. Daylight savings time can make people tired, thus they are not being as productive at work or in their daily activities at home.

I don’t think we should keep daylight savings time. It causes a lot of deaths and it makes a lot of people tired so they don’t want to do things. It is also really confusing for people since the times are off. I can see why people think we should keep it though.

  • Should the US keep daylight savings time? I think that they shouldn't because it feels weird leaving school after sports to see its completely pitch black. Is daylight saving time beneficial? I think it is buty either get ride of it or make it a year round thing.

    • I agree with what you said. I don't like it either when it gets dark a lot earlier. It is also confusing because people are so used to be going home when it is light out then dark out. With this it makes it harder for people to see where they are going.

  • Should the US keep daylight savings time? I think we should keep daylight savings time because people are used to it. There are negative effects but I think that keeping it the same would be easier. Also, when you gain an hour it feels nice to have an extra hour.

    • I disagree with what you said. Even though people are used to it, some people are still a little confused and stressed about daylight savings. It does feel good when you do get an extra hour of sleep but some people can still be tired in the morning since they don't go to bed as early as they usually do.

  • I can see why some people are against daylight svaings time as it messes with their daily schedules, and what their body is used to. Nonetheless, I do not think we should get rid of it as we still need it for the intended purpose of having day light. It may not affect some people jobs as they work inside, but there are still many many jobs outside that it would affect.

    • I diagree with what you said. I think most people needed daylight savings in the past and not so much anymore. I can see how some people still need daylight savings though. I can also see why you think we should keep it.

    • I agree, I think that daylight saving effects on who you are as a person, are you a morning person, or a night owl? As someone that can be both, but more a morning person, then I somewhat like it being so light when I wake up, but driving home from activites can be somewhat scary, because of deer, and just driving in dark.

  • I think that daylight savings was a good idea when it was first introduced but now it is a inconvienence and makes people feel weird. I think that the intentions behind it was good but if we just stayed on the same time all the time it would be a lot simpler.

    • I agree with what you said. It doesn't really affect us anymore since they used it for what they needed it for already. I also think what they used it for was a good sorce of energy. I also think if we get rid of daylight savings time it won't be as confusing for some people.

  • Me personally I like both switches, I think that they both have pros and cons. When it gets darkers earlier I am not a fan, because I dont like driving in the dark, but I think when the sun comes up earlier I wake up faster.
