Plastic Surgery

In the last 2 years about 26.2 million people around the world have gotten plastic surgery. People may ask why do people get it, or when did it even start, how did they even come up with plastic surgery?  What are some of the most common plastic surgeries? I will talk about all of these questions that people have. Starting on when it got popular and when it started.

Plastic surgery started a long time ago, around 800 B.C. The plastic surgery they did back then was just a simple reconstructive and work on the skin, grafts were used in Ancient India to make them. But in 1460 A.D, the first known medical text for plastic surgery procedures was created and the precursor was called a "nose job.” Then in the 1700s Western doctors visited Eastern nations and began bringing back procedures to Europe, where the practice began to develop into the specialty we know today.  Then over the 1700s people started using skin grafting more often, then in 1827 the first cleft palate operation was performed in the New World. Then the 1800-1900s Wars in different areas of the world became the driving force for plastic surgery developments. Then in the 1930-1940 The American Society of Plastic Surgeons was founded, as well as the American Board of Plastic Surgery, to make plastic surgery better. But in 1962 A woman in Texas became the first person to receive silicone breast implants.

Now I'll  talk about what's the most common plastic surgery. Well a lot of people get the same plastic surgery but which one? The top cosmetic surgeries are breast augmentation which are increasing the size of the chest area, liposuction are decreasing the waist part making you look skinny, nose reshaping is decreasing the size of your nose, eyelid surgery which is removing a skin part of your eyelid, and facelift is removing the wrinkles from your face. But remember this affects about 26.2 million people that get it, and it doesn't always go well. For example people can get infection from it if not properly done well by the surgery, usually this happens outside of the United States because other countries don't have the machinerie like the U.S. has. Also about 93 people have died from it during 2009–2022 U.S. citizens died after receiving cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic.

What I think about this is I don't think people should get it in general, but if it is for the better of them maybe they should. People can't really control what they do to their own body so if they want to look really good go ahead but I personally don't like it. For the risk it has that it could look bad on you and costing a lot of money to do it, I just don't think it's worth it to mess up your whole body for face just to look good, and the other risk of dying for it. But what are your thoughts on it?

What do you think about this ?

Should people keep doing plastic surgery or should they stop it?

Would you ever get plastic surgery?

  • Great topic choice and summary Edgardo! Be sure to check back on Thursday so you can do more comments.

  • I don't think plastic surgery is bad,  but I don't really agree with it. I understand if they had no other chose like if they has something happen to their nose and they needed it to get fixed I get that but otherwise its a waste of money and shouldn't be as common as it is.

  • i think plastic surgury is dumb because altering your body means you won't be you, and it might make you prettier or more handsome but i garente someone in your life likes you just the way you are, and i would never get it done because of this.

  • I don't think plastic surgery is a bad thing, I do agree with some of the side effects of getting plastic surgery. Plastic surgery can scar and harm the skin if not done properly, but it is very rare to be done improperly. I believe it is your opinion if you want plastic surgery, they shouldn't be stopped. I myself would not get plastic surgery.

  • What do you think about this, I belive it is bad in preaty mucjh every way. Although  if you breack your nose you could need plastic surgrey so your nose dosnent have a big indent in there nose but i dont think that pepole should get it unless nessasary wich i know the nose exampel isnt nessasery but more nessasary then how some pepole do it.

  • 1.) I think you shouldn't get plastic surgery because it could be dangerous. I think you are born the way you are, and you shouldn't be able to change that.

  • I think plastic surgery should only be used for important useful reasons. like if you get injured and want to look better or have fat you need to remove or you will not survive. but not for worthless reasons to please someone elses eyes.

  • What do you think about this? I think that plastic surgery is a bad thing. This is because when someone gets plastic surgery it often makes them unrecognizable. It's sad that people don't like how they look so much that they decide to completely reconstruct their faces.

  • I believe that plastic surgery is not a good thing. Like any type of surgery, it carries risks with potential scars, infection, and complications overall in your body. It can lead to unexpected results and not be what you imagined which would be horrific. It is really expensive and is probably most definitely not covered by insurance. Once in a while, there is going to be someone who is addicted to getting plastic surgery, which first off is just bad because you're putting your life at some terrible risk. Someone could probably think that getting surgery is going to change how they are perceived, but in my opinion, it just won't help. So overall I think that plastic surgery should not be done.

  • I think that people shouldnt get plastic surgry for fixing there flaws, everyine has there flaw and it what makes people uniqe so I personly think we shouldnt have it. I think that people should stop because its a waste of time and money for fixing something that makes a person so uniqe. I would never get plastic surgey I think it would be a waste of time fixing something that no one cares about other than youself.
