is nuclear power good for the environment

Nuclear power is an ongoing conversation between countries.  Nuclear power plants have a lot of advantages and disadvantages. Since chernobyl there have been lots of things set up to stop them from exploding but there are still lots of good that can come from them

Let's start with how nuclear power plants give off carbon free electricity. Fossil fuels when burned give off large amount of carbon dioxide which isn’t good for the environment and is one of the main reasons pollution is so bad. Nuclear power plants also have a small land footprint. This means that they take up less space than the average clean energy facilities. Nuclear power plants also give off high power output. This would make a great provider for baseload electricity.

Lets talk about some of the disadvantages. Uranium is not a renewable source. Uranium is found in little parts of the earths crust and cant be remade which means eventually we will run out of it. Another this is how much it costs to build it the cost to ruin it is relatively cheap compared to the building costs. The last thing is the nuclear waste. It is very radioactive and super bad for the environment.

do you think we should keep using nucular power?

  • Good topic choice Westin! Your summary could be a longer. You mention Chernobyl. Expalin what that was as most whon't know. You also didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points. Your story was also posted a day late.

  • I think that using nuclear energy is very wasteful. It can harm us humans and it is also very harful to the enviorment. It can also cause pollution which is very bad, and it can have long term affects on people. For example, putting them in a hospital or worse.

  • I personally do not think that we should continue to use nuclear energy for multiple reasons. For example it is very harmful to our environment and it is also very bad for us humans as well.

  • I don't think we should continue using nuclear power because of how harmful it is to the planet and to the people.

  • I dont think nucular power is helping our enviorment becuase its casuing polution and making people sick. And its causing more and more global warming. Its also putting people in the hospital. And its making livestock sick. Also its using unrenewable resources that if we run out of them we wont be able to get them back.

  • I do not think we should continue using nuclear power because it is not good for the environment and can be super dangerous. I think because it is super radioactive it is too dangerous to use and can cause really large problems if something happens.

  • I don't think that nuclear power is helping our environment, but maybe it is helping something else. Personally, I haven't heard a lot about the nuclear power converstation, so I don't think that I know enough to say if we should use it or not.

  • Personally i do not think that the world should continune useing nueclear power becaus eof all the cons to our enviroment, but also there is probably a better cause that we could be putting the unrenewable reasources towards instead of using them and perhaps wasting them on nueclear power.

  • While they take up less space I don't think we should have them. It pollutes the planet and is very expensive.

  • I feel like I'm at an inbetween here since it could be devestating to the enviroment with one wrong move or make the world have better sources for energy. Also, the fact that the resource that is required for this isn't in abundance, is it even worth looking into if we are going to run out of it.
