Are Energy Drinks bad for you?

Over the years energy drinks have been very popular with teens and college students who need an energy boost. However, the health of these energy drinks are a hot topic and a very big debate. Most people say that these energy drinks can offer some benefits and others say there are crucial ingredients and potential health risks and may have many bad effects on the body.

How can they be bad? Energy drinks contain a combination of caffeine, sugar, and other ingredients. Most energy drinks have a lot of sugar which is not good for you. Every energy drink has caffeine and caffeine is an addictive ingredient that increases your heart rate. Most energy drinks contain more than double of the recommended daily intake of sugar in a single serving. The caffeine can also mess with your body in a bad way.

How can they be good for you? The caffeine that’s in them can make you perform better for anything, like sports or an important event. It also decreases how tired you are. Caffeine can also enhance the mood you are in. Some energy drinks have good ingredients in them that can benefit you.

In my opinion, I feel like energy drinks are good. They may not be the best for you but I like them. They can help with many things but they can also cause many health issues.  Some energy drinks are better than others. If you know that you have problems with energy you should not drink them.

  • I think that there should be an age limit on energy drinks. Younger kids shouldn't be consuming energy drinks, because caffine being an addictive ingredent, we don't want them to get addicted to something at such a young age. I think that the ingredents and amount of caffine and sugar in energy drinks is really bad for you. Most of the ingredents are unnatral and may be harmful for your body. Energy drinks can be addictive becasue caffine allows more blood flow to your brain to keep you more awake and active, but eventually your body gets used to having that caffine in your body and you tend to start craving it more, which causes addiction.

    • I agree, kids at a young age shouldn't be able to drink them because they are so young and could cause something to happen.

    • I agree with you because they can be bad for you. I personally love them and like getting them. You show great reasons and show how they are not good for you. They could give you great things though like boosts on your activities.

    • I agree with you on the age limit. If somone younger gets addicted to them that could be very hard for them to stop. Yes, your body will then crave for the energy if you don't have one.

  • Energy drinks can be extremely harmful because they can be addictive and disrupt your body's natural balance. The high amounts of caffeine can lead to your body feeling like it needs it, and without it, people can experience withdrawal symptoms like headaches. The fast spike of these drinks and crash in energy can also affect mood and performance. Also, with all the sugar and other stimulants put in energy drinks, it can lead to increased blood pressure, which can lead to heart issues. This also one of the reasons why I think you should not drink them before any sporting events.

    • I agree with you because they can be addictive and bad for you. But they are so good. You have great reasons on how they are bad for you though and you make a great point. But before things they could get you hype and you could perform better.

    • I fully agree with you. But, I do feel like it could help ypu before a sporting event.

      • Yes, although the adrenaline before the game, in my opinion, is enough. My heart is already beating fast enough because of the nerves, and the energy drink can spike it even more. Also, energy drinks can cause me to "Crash"  in the middle of my game.

  • Energy drinks are bad for you because they contain high levels of sugar and caffeine. A typical energy drink has between 80 and 200 mg of caffeine, which can cause increased heart rate and even dehydration. Consuming more than 400 mg of caffeine a day can lead to serious health problems like heart and digestive problems. In the end, even though energy drinks may give you a quick boost of energy, the long-term health effects are bad.

    • I agree with you, increased heart rates can cause problems later on such as strokes, and heart failure. Also, the fact that some energy drinks can make up about half of that 400mg of caffeine you mention is pretty insane seeing how often these types of drinks are consumed.
