American Murder: Laci Peterson

American Murder: Laci Peterson

Laci Peterson was a woman from Modesto California. She was married to Scott Peterson and they were expecting their first child, a baby boy. On Christmas Eve, 2002, Laci was reported missing by Scott. According to neighbors, she left her home and walked her dog at a nearby park. Later that day, the dog was reported running back from the park with the leash still attached, no Laci. Scott Peterson has been charged with first degree murder of his wife, and second degree murder of his son. He was sentenced to life in prisonment.

Scott Peterson was labeled as the murderer of Laci and his unborn son, Connor. When Scott Peterson filed a missing persons report on his missing wife, he was having an affair with a woman named Amber Frey. Amber was told before that Scott’s wife died and this would be the first holiday without her present. Scott also told Amber that he was traveling with his family for the holidays, even sharing a voicemail from Paris France on New Years Eve. Amber Frey was reading the daily news when she read about Laci, a description of her husband was in the article as well. She figured it out all along. Scott was having an affair, he lied about his wife, and he wasn’t in France, he was looking for her.

Another reason for how Scott killed his wife was that there is a voicemail that Scott sent to Laci. He sent this the day she went missing (December 24). It says how he was on his way to Berkeley Marina to get his boat in the water. He bought this boat on December 9th. When questioned late that evening, he told authorities he was going golfing. When asked if he would take a polygraph test, he refused. In the following days, authorities went to the shop where this boat was kept. They found handmade anchors, rope, and a pair of pliers. The pliers raised a huge red flag because wrapped around the pliers, was long, black, hair. Later DNA proved it was Laci’s.

Fast forward to April 12, 2003. Around 5 months into the hunt for Laci. 2 miles out from Berkeley Marina, washed up a body, one that was the size of an infant. The next day, the body of a full grown adult washed up in around the same spot as the first. DNA proved that the bodies were Conner and Laci’s bodies. Scott was taken to prison, where he has remained till this day.

Do you think Scott is the murderer?

What do you think would have happened if they never found the bodies?

  • I think Scott is the murderer because all of the evidence shows that he was trying to lie about her death and act like he didn't know what happened. When he was acting like he didn't know what happened he was suspicious. I think they would have kept looking for the bodies until they found them. If they also never found the bodies then they would of not had full evidence that shows if Scott really killed his pregnant wife.

  • I think that Scott is the killer, I think this because of the wierd behavior he even had before. I think that there is a possibility that he killed Laci because he didnt want her to find out he was having affair with another person, so unfortunately maybe killed her.

  • I do believe that Scott is the murderer. If he didn't kill her, why wouldn't he do anything in his power to prove he didn't? All the evidence points back at him and he's really the only suspect. If they never found the bodies, they probably still would've locked Scott up and found them eventually.

    • I agree with this. I also agree with your point that if he didn't do it, he didn't want to show anything that he didn't. He agreed to the polygraph test, which he failed. That shows that he was lying to the cops and not telling them something relating to the case.

  • Do you think Scott is the murderer?  yes i belive that he was almost all of the evedance points twordes him expesilly when they found the plieres with black hair on them I belive that is extreamly suspiisuies and the voicemail is very scetch also so in conclusion i do belive he is a murder

    • I agree with this because of all the evidence that was shown by the police. I also took into account the very weird voicemail from Scott, and him changing the story about where he was that day. First he told Laci that he was going fishing, but he told the police that he was going golfing.

  • In my opinion, I think Scott murdered them because when you look at the evidence, a lot of the events correlate with each other. For example, when they found pliers that had black hair on them, and when he also said that he bought a boat. Then, later they found both of their bodies washed up. Meaning the boat and their bodies in the water kind of go together. So closing, I think Scott definitely killed them.

    • I agree with your comment, I do also think that it is almost completely obvious that Scott killed Laci. If this case got tried again in a court setting, I think that Scott would get an even worse sentencing, such as life in prison, or death.
