4 men charged with hate crimes in beating of gay couple.

Four Florida men who authorities say were the ones captured on surveillance cameras pummeling a gay couple last month are now facing felony hate crime charges.

Footage of the April 8 attack shows Rene Chalarca and his boyfriend, Dmitry Logunov, being brutally beaten by 4 men after the Miami Beach Gay Pride festival. The couple was holding hands just before the assault.

When a bystander, Helmut Muller Estrada, attempted to protect the victims, he too was beaten until he was knocked unconscious and awoke in a pool of his own blood, according to reports.

1. What would you do if you see a hate crime?

Depending on the circumstances, in this case, I am a woman and they are 4 men so I would call the police and a hospital to bring ambulances and after that I would try to scream, calling the attention of more people.

2. What kind of punishment do you think these 4 people deserve? Or do you think they do not deserve any punishment? Why?

In my opinion they deserve to go to jail for a long time the 4 guys, it is also necessary to ask for forgiveness to the victims and families and when they leave the jail they deserve to have in their record how idiots they are.

  • If I saw a hate crime takign place I would try to get help to stop it. But I wouldn't be an idiot and try to be a hero by any means. I would not jump in a fight on my own because I would eventually get beaten up myself. They should go to jail because beating some people up because they are gay is wrong and immoral.

  • I agree that they deserve to go to jail for a long time and totally agree that it is also necessary for them to ask for forgiveness of the victims and families. Obviously this will be a skidmark on their credibility and record.

  • 1) I would call the police and the hospital to get ambulances there before people start to get hurt, so they have a better chance to live.

2)I think they should have a punishment, go to jail for a long period of time .

  • The only logical thing for me to do in that circumstance is to call the police. I can't fight back against them... Maybe I could throw something, but the best thing for me to do is call the authorites for help.

  • If it was like this an active beating I would call the police and try to intervene.  the punishment of these people should depend on how severe the couples injurys were and the price to pay for the medical bills.

  • 1. Pull out my concealed Glock 21 .45 calibre handgun and train it on what I thnk are the bad guys and try to stop the violence then while everyone is calm, figure out what the problem is about. Then call the cops so jsutice can be served, or serve some street justice myself if its needed.

    2. Jail time for assult to think about what they did.

  • If I saw a hate crime like this taking place I would know not to get into the fight becuase 4 men againt a women and two other men is not a fair fihgt and I know I would lose. So instead of jumping into the fight I would call the poplice and let them deal with the situation as they see fit. As for their punisdment thats up for the court to decide.

  • Depending on the situation I would call 911, run in to help them or both.

I think they should be punished. have at least a few years in jail.

    • Yeah it does depend on the situation and maybe if I was a guy and was stronger I would maybe consider trying to get into the fight and helping the gay couple. I would still probably call 911 before I would do anything else becasue I think that would be the best solution if anything.

  • I would react quickly and call the police because these things can get very violent and out of control and getting plice there to help is the best thing. I think long jail time if definatly needed for these men, its sad they have to treat other humans so harshly.
