Would you rather have longer days but less days, or shorter days with more days? That’s the question that many schools have been asking themselves at the start of this school year. One school in Independence Missouri starts their school weeks on tuesdays. But they aren’t alone in this 4 day school week, lots of schools have started doing a 4 day school week instead of 5 days. But it does come at a price. These schools are doing longer school days as opposed to an 8 hour school day with a 5 day school week.
There are definitely some benefits of a 4 day school week. Think about it, your school week is shorter. This means that you have one day less of homework, of classes, of school overall. And if you do have homework, this gives you an extra day to do it without having the extra stress of doing it during the school day. This also benefits the teachers, it can be a selling point for teachers who are on the fence about going to teach somewhere. And in a world where we are currently in a teacher shortage, schools need teachers. So why not help the teachers and the students by going to a 4 day school week.
Now we already know what a 5 day school week looks like, 7 hour days of 5 days. But what are some benefits of a 5 day school week? Some studies have shown that after having a 4 day school week for a couple of years, some students have had problems with their progress in learning. Versus students who have maintained a 5 day school week have kept up with their learning progress. Doing this can also affect the elementary students in the school. By having a 4 day school week the elementary student’s sleep schedules can get messed up. And by doing this, they can be tired during the 4 days they are in school. But when asking the parents they overwhelmingly said they preferred the 4 day school week. So… Which would you rather have??
I would rather do a 5 day school week with shorter days. By doing a 4 day week kids aren’t getting as much learning out of it. And why would we go to school not to learn. If we’re going to spend years of our lives doing something I would rather it be productive. Another reason I would rather do a 5 day school week is it keeps it consistent. I like to have a schedule and stick to that. And by having a 4 day school week half of our time would be doing things that could hurt the 4 days we are in school.
Which would you want, 4 day school weeks or 5 days?
Would you rather have Mondays or Fridays off if Harlan went to a 4 day school week?
What would you do on your day off if you had a 4 day school week?

I am in between and five-day week or four days. I think a four-day week would be nice then we get an extra day on our weekend, but the usual five-day week would also be nice so we can stay in our regular schedule/routine. If we were to change to a four-day school week I would rather get Mondays off than Fridays.
I agree that a 4 day school week would be nice, but looking long term, I would rather stick to out 5 day schedule. This way we can still have in school sports, think about it. If we had 4 day school weeks our days would be too long for sports.
I would also choose Fridays as our day off if we were to have a 4 day school week. Sleeping in would be the best way to spend the day off, but like you I would probably finish any homework that I had. Something else I might do would be hanging out with friends.
I wouldnt like having four day break becuase it could cause way more stress on kids and teachers, at school for ten hours does not sound fun. If Harlan went to four days I would love to have mondays off. What would I do on my day off I would most likely do some school work.
I think that is a good point, no one wants to be at school for 10 straight hours. And with that I agree with you that it would cause more stress on kids, which is supposed to be the opposite of what a 4 day school week should do.
I think a 4 day school day is better than a 5 day school week. We would get more time to be kids and work and hang out with friends unlike a 5 day school day you only get 2 days to go have fun. 4 days would help with the kidf brains to relax a little long and get homewok done.
A 4 day school week would be great if we hadn't gotten used to the 5 day week. Some people may be overly used to a 5 day week and changing over tol a 4 day would mess up and potentionally affect the way people learn. I think if we were to have 4 day weeks I would rather have friday off because it would make the weekend feel longer and better.
I would prefer to keep it 5 days because that's why we have the weekends off from school. I would rather have Monday off because it would make sense for a 3 day weekend to be on this day. If I only had 4 days of school I would play video games, hang out with friends, and do homework before school starts again.
I would want to stay of 5 days, due to either having a long school year or longer school days. But if I had to pick from having Monday or Friday off, I would pick Monday. I would pick Friday because then to me the week would seem even more shorter. On my day off, I would sleep in, do any homework that I would need to to before Monday. So then I would have the rest of the weekend and Friday to relax.
I would rather have a 5 day school week. If schools go to a 4 day week, the school hours will be longer and after school activities will be pushed back farther. This will give students less time to do homework that is due the next day. If Harlan went to a 4 day week I would prefer Fridays off. Although I don't like going back to school on Mondays, Tuesday would just become the new Monday. On my day off I would sleep in and do things around my house.
