Today Chelsea did her presentation.What problems did the farmers face on the plains?Who were the populists and what did they beleive in?They Farmers' Alliances; Oliver Hudson Kelley started the Patrons of Husbandry, an organization for farmers that became popularly known as Grange. The farmers and Grange people were fighting against the railroad to change the prices. The membership grew as the farmers went further into debt.The raise and fall of populism; populism- the movement of people. Farmers and factoy workers were populist. It was common people against the wealthy people.Panic of 1893; bacialy hard times in the us.Farmers wanted more money into circulation and then they would get more money.Populists wanted;a graduated income tax. The more you make, the more you pay.Direct election of US senetors.Single terms for president and vice president; never happenedcalled for a secret ballot.called for 8 hour work dayRestrictions on immigrants; immigrants took jobs away from people and keept wages low.Chapter 6 section 1;Bessemer steel process; iron was hard to work with because it is soft and tends to break and rust.
