Foreign Policy- how we deal with other countries
Diplomacy- The official way of dealing with other countries. Is the way countries deal with each other through problems.
Imperialism- One country going to different places and claiming land in the name of that country. Great Britain is a good example. Empire building
Militarism- A nation that has a strong military, or has tried to acquire one, and isn’t afraid to use it.
Nationalism- One individual being completely devoted to their country; thinking that your country and your countries ethics are much better that anyone else’s.
Sphere of influence- A larger, or stronger country that doesn’t take a country that is independent, but has a lot of influence in that area.
Protectorate- A country that is controlled and protected by another.
Arbitration- A neutral party that settles a dispute between two countries or two different parties. Like a judge during a trial.
wanted Alaska because of potential Russia wanted to get ride of it because they didn't want to worry about it Britain was afraid that we were going to take over Canada.
Hawaii we annexed it became the last state in 1959 got involved with Hawaii before because there sugar plantations.
Spanish American War- 1890 Spain was a dwindling empire they were crumbing not powerful anymore.
US tried to buy Cuba in 1854 they have been revolting against Spain frequently wanting independence
1895 civil war broke out conflict was described bloody and brutal. news papers played a big role in the war they swayed peoples opinions they lied in there papers stretched the truth. big news paper guys William Randolph hearst and joseph Pulitzer.
