Obama started off by talking about how kindergardeners are scared and seniors are feeling pretty good and the rest of us are wishing it was still summer. He talked about how he lived over seas and his mom couldn't afford to send him to american school so she taught him at 4:30 in the morining.
He talked about how nothing will matter unless we show up and listen and put int he hard work. He says we have a responsibility to find our talent and the only way we can find that talent is in school. We need education for whatever we want to do in our lives. We cant just drop out of school and drop into a good job. The country needs all of us to develop our skills so we can help the old folks solve their most difficult problems. If we quit on school we are not only quiting on ourselves but on the country as well. He says he knows how difficult it is. Maybe we dont have enough support or not enough money or our friends are pressureing us to do bad things. He says there is no excuse for doing bad in school. No excuse for cutting class, dropping out, or cursing at a teacher. No excuse for neglecting homework or not trying. He says where we are now is not were we have to end up. We wright our own future.
He says some of the most succesful people are the ones who have failed the most. He also said that we should wash our hands and stay home from school when we dont feel well. Dont ever give up on yourself because when you give up on yourself you are giving up on your country.I think he was going a little overboard on the no excuse thing. Like, what if the parents are hitting their kid and they think they are worthless so they dont try in school because they figure they aren't important. I think that is a pretty good excuse. What if they are living in a bad neighborhood and they get beaten up for going to school. He does have some very good points though about our future and that we write our own and where we are now is not where we have to be.
