Obama Education Reform Speech

This is was what so many people threw a humungous fit about? Oh, come on America! Get your thumbs out of your mouths and act like a civilized and respectable nation, not a maniacal society hell-bent on wasting time, energy, money, and other resources that could be used for something constructive and beneficial instead worrying about Barack Obama promoting a message of hard work and determination to the schools of the country! It makes me sick to think of all of the idiots that the U.S. is somehow able to tolerate. Our founding fathers would be kicking us in the shins if they knew that all of this squabbling and these political civil wars were caused by some of the simplest and benign things. I will say it again; our nation is replete with morons.Ok, down to business. I watched President Obama’s 19 minute speech about education refinement. I will be honest and say that it was not as much of a “be a goody tooshoo” speech, but rightfully tells students across the nation that it is our duty to buckle down and do well in school. He’s right, it is our duty. He spoke along these lines, “When you give up and don’t do your school work, if you drop out, you are not only failing yourself, but your country.” Anyone who says that they are a citizen of the United States of America should feel obligated to do their best for our country. As John Fitzgerald Kennedy said, “It’s not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” Truer words have rarely been spoken.Obama also talked a lot about the different situations that kids can get into, and what effects those situations can have on your life. Obama grew up rough, like millions of others. Just because you are in a tough situation, or live in a bad neighborhood, your parents split up, or you become orphaned doesn’t give you the right to lie down and quit. If anything, those situations should be extra and special motivators that persistently and irrevocably drive you until you succeed. Life is tough, big deal. Our country wasn’t founded in the best of circumstances. Finally, I will touch on the part of Obama’s speech about success. Success sure as hell doesn’t happen overnight. Getting a bad grade on a test, losing a sports game, or getting put-down for your efforts does not make you a failure. The formula for success is, “Double your rate of failure.” Through failure comes the basis of all that drives us to succeed. Whether you need to study more for the next test, practice harder and longer for the game, or stand defiantly before those who chastise you, you are likely to make the same mistakes that you had previously. You learn through your failures, and can use what you learned to rise higher than anyone expected.Obama’s speech was necessary and I think that many will learn from it. We can only hope that Americans will begin to suck up their pride and listen instead trying to be heard over one another.
