Friday 23-27

Monday- Today we talked a lot about the Russia vs. Ukraine battle. It first started with the protest in Kiev, Ukraine. After that things started to escalate and get worse. It eventually got o bad that the Ukrainian President flees away from the action. A week after that Russian speaking troops entered into Crimea, the southern part of Ukraine. Eventually Kiev started fighting against the people in eastern Ukraine. Then In the spring, a new president took power in Kiev. Then the contentious EU trade deal finally got signed. Later on a commercial airline was blown out of the sky, but months later a ceasefire follows. The fighting in the east became colder and harsher, and the west became divided.

Tuesday- Started taking the Latin American test.

Wednesday- Finished taking test. Then we started talking about the U.S. Constitution. This is a set of laws that help run our country.  We have three different branches to break up the power. There are 100 US senators 2 per state. Then there are 435 people in these house of Representatives. Determined by the population of each state. A person in the House of Representatives runs a term of 2 years  and you have to be 25 years of age to run. You need to be 30 year sold to run for Senator.  Some powers congress have are to call for war and create laws. President can run for 4 years up to two terms up to a total of 10 years. They need to be 35 years old to run for president. FDR was president for about 12 years but he died early before he could serve 16 years. President can veto laws and military commander. In the Supreme court they are no requirement to become part of it. The only ways they can lose their jobs is by retiring, impeached out, or death. They can also interpenetrate laws.

Thursday- Today we continued the talk about the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution was written because the articles gave the states all the power. Some basic principals : Popular Sovereignty, Limited Government, Separation of Powers, and Federalism. Another thing was checks and balances divide the powers or distribute the powers through all three branches. The structure of the Constitution is the Preamble, all the articles, then the amendments. Article 1 is the legislative branch. Consist of Senate and House of Representatives. They make laws, set laws, ect. Article 2 is the Executive Branch. Consist of President and Vice President. They grant pardons, commander-in -chief. and make treaties. Next we talked about impeachment. President Johnson and Nixon were partially impeached, but no president was ever fully impeached

Next we talked some more about Net Neutrality. Then we continued on the U.S. Constitution. Article 3 is about the Judicial Branch. The Supreme Court judges serve for life unless impeached. Judicial power rests with US Supreme Court. Some important powers are decides cases, cases involved ambassadors go through supreme court, Judicial review comes later.
