Assigned Blog #7- Failed States

A failed state is a country that is seen as having failed at some of the conditions and responsibilities of a sovereign government. The Funds for Peace characterize a failed state as “having loss of control of its territory, erosion of legitimate authority to make collective decisions, and the inability to interact with other states as part of the international community.”
Failed states are formed after a civil war, a natural disaster, a government takeover, or can form slowly. Some countries that are currently failed states include Somalia, Sudan, Chad, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and Haiti.
