Americanization movement

Between a 30 year time period, millions of people immagrated from Europe to the United States causing the Americanization movement. Americans saw the Europeans as a threat to the American way of life and wanted the Europeans to adapt the language and customs of Americans. I could see where the Americans could see them as a threat if millions immagrated over. They could possibly take over the language and the way of life there. I sure wouldnt want to feel like I was getting pushed out of how I did things and spoke. The whole point of the Americanization movement was to Americanize the Europeans into the United States way of life to be a part of the culture. European children, men, and women had to go to public schools to learn the english language and learn about American history and the government. A lot of adults took night classes because they had jobs they needed to make money for to survive in the U.S. with all the classes they needed to take to be Americanized. Some Europeans didn't believe they should have to abandon their way of life and language. Which I can and can't agree with, because I wouldnt wan't to have the way I did things taken away from me and have to learn another language. But I wouldnt want to have to deal with people that didn't know english or did things differently from me or others. I would understand to some point because sometimes you can't help what kind of culture or backround or language you speak, but what is dominate in the country you are in, you should be obligated to learn the language and culture. Some combined their cultures and beliefs with the American cultures and beliefs and usually lived in neighborhoods with other immagrants.
