Harships in the west-Farmers who went west faced many hardships such as blizzards, droughts, and locus plagues. Trees were scarce so many people built their homes out of the way very land they to farm. Two types of homes were the dogouts and sod homes (soddles) Sod homes were pretty popular because they were fire resistant, and people who lived out there were dusting there homes daily. Sod houses were made because there were very few resources.Working the land-Everyone had to help around the farm because they were to far away from everyone else. The inventions of the plow, harrow, and reapoer really haelped with the planting time as well as the seedd drill and barbedd wire., These also were made it much faster to harvest grain.Debts-This expensive machinery left farmers in debt. They had to burrow money most of the time. acquire enough wheat prices also drove many farmers farther into debt as wheat prices fell and shipping increased.Transcontinental Railroad- Many Chinese workers made the railroad which was finished in 1866.Refer back to fridays reflective blog.
