Today we finished watching Mr. Bruns's power point presentation. There was a huge controversy when the secret service took Kennedy's body with them out of Dallas. Since there was no laws regarding the assassination of a president at the time, it was a problem to take Kennedy's body out of the state he had died in. Kennedy was buried on his son's 3rd birthday, 3 days after he was shot.We then looked at Lee Harvey Oswald's background. He was in the marines and became a sharp- shooter. He met his wife Marina in Russia. They had a girl named June. Their relationship was rocky, he was abusive towards her both physically and verbally. Oswald was a supporter of Fidel Castro, which led to conspiracy theories that Castro was involved in the assassination. The rifle Oswald used was a Manlicher- Carcano. Oswald snuck his rifle in using a paper bag, claiming it was curtain rods. After Oswald killed Kennedy, he went home and got a hand gun and was walking back, when Officer Tippit stopped him for looking suspicious. Oswald shot Tippit then ran to the Texas Theater where he tried to shoot a police officer and was arrested. They first arrested him just for Tippit's murder, then discovered he assassinated Kennedy. Will Fritz interrogated Osawld. Oswald was later confronted by the press and he claimed he was just a patsy, or a fall guy. When they transferred Oswald to County Prison, Jack Ruby attempted escorted him secretly. Jack Ruby shot Oswald, who died at the hospital where Kennedy died. Jack Rubenstein changed his name to Ruby so he would not be seen as just a Jewish man. Ruby calimed he murdered Oswald for Mrs. Kennedy, believing she shouldn't have to face Oswald in a trial. Ruby was arrested and died later on in prison from cancer. The Warren Commission stated that Oswald was on the sixth floor window of the Texas School Book Depository. The first bullet Oswald shot went through Conally, wounding him, and then wounded Kennedy. Having gone through 15 layers of clothes and 2 human bodies, the bullet was named "the magic bullet". Oswald murdered Tippit 45 minutes after Kennedy's assassination. There was a picture of Oswald holding his rifle and a paper in front of his house. He calimed it was fake, but his wife claimed to have taken the picture.
