Today, in class, we got on the computers and watched a video on Overpopulation. We are to put Facts that we learned on this video, and we need to list things such as:Definition- Not just how many people there are, but how much impact each person has. When I was told this, and Bruns explained, it really opened a light to me. I never really thought of it that way.Causes- Lack of education, so they are unaware of what they will be putting their bodies through. Lack of money in 3rd world countries, so they cannot buy any type of birth control methods. Part of it is also cultural as some cultures have as manys kids as possible.Effects- Some effects of Overpopulation are producing a LOT of CO2 into the atmosphere. In many big cities, violence, crime and poverty are common, as there are more people and not enough jobs. And when people are poor is when people are desperate and steal and do other crazy things. Innocent citizens always live in fear for their lives. Our nation has huge impact on the environment, whether it be deforestation for land to raise cheap beef, or smoke and other harmful toxins going into the skyLater in the video, they showed how they abort babies who had no other way out of the situation. Most of these people die in these unsafe procedures. Before this, Bruns had to give us a disclaimer about some minor graphic scenes on the video, so I became wary.Subsequent to this, the next video segnent was about how women are second class people. They would work as children, while the boys would be out playing, which I agree is unfair. They do not ever get to voice their opinion, which includes both how their bodies are used AND how many children are in the family, which is decided by the man of the house, or shack (Poor taste?). Most girls weren't even sent to school to get an education as opposed to the boys in the family, because it was too costly. Women who do get a solid education get a place in life, but this is very rare.Apparently there are some positives of overpopulation,Most of us took our Canada Map Test during the video, and I think I nailed it. I certainly hope my grade goes up.
