They had no diseases and never convicted of a felony. If they didnt pass then they would get sent back. They put a restrictions because they were racism and they were nativists.Late in the 19th centry, early 20th centry many imingrants came to U.S. They came because famine, land shortage, religious/ political conflicts, birds of passage came just for money and jobs then go home. Nearly 20 million people arived between 1890 and 1920. The jews were being run out by pogroms in Russia. Europeans had to pass through Ellis island. They had to have 25 dollars and had to work. They had no diseases and never convicted of a felony. If they didnt pass then they would get sent back. 300,000 chinese arrived from 1851 and 1883. Brought by the glod rush. They helped build railroads and were treated poorly. 30,000 found jobs in Hawaii. The kids were in different schools and had to have bad jobs that no one wanted. They were treated like savages. Central americans came in the 1920. 700,000 came from mexico They came because the industrial boom sparked jobs that they wanted. Angle island, the chinsess had to go through angle islan. They had to be teachers, students, or merchants. They had to have a father or husband. They had difficult questions to make them not to come. They asked them questions about there country and harsh treatment. They were kept in dirty cells before there questioned. If you were white anglo saxon and prodistant they were liked the best. They liked them before the chiness and other imigrants that came over later. In 1882 the chinesess exclution act this act banned chinesess that wanted to come to america. The gentel mans group, Japans gov said they would send people over and the u.s. would not put japan people in different schools.
