Today we started talking about how the ITEDs were important. As long as you improve you get extra credit which will help your school. It will count as a test for us. If you get a 42 percent or higher you get a hundred percent. If you improve then you get a hundred percent. It can also hurt your grade by having it be if you dont improve. If we get proficent then we get to PARTY .Chapter 5-2Settling in the Geat PainsMoving west they were trying to make land to farm. It took 250 years to make 400 million into farms. Railroads were 170 million acers to build track. The land became expensive because people want to live closer to the track. Two majior railroad built the tracks. The two were central pacific and the Union pacific. The meet in Utah in 1860 which made our country closer. The gov supported and passed the homestead act. Many americans took the claim and became farmers. Two people passed a act to stop destroying settlements. In 1880 americans bought 19 million acres of gov land. Some people started taking land for granted. 10 percent of the land was used the way it was supose to.The trees were very rare so they had to build them in the hills. Many farmers had to take out a loan which they paid when they got the money. They were in det most of the time. They were also in det to by crops and railroads charged the farmers high prices because there was no other railroads.Chapter 5-3Farmersd and the PopulistIn the late 1800 prices were falling. They put mortgaging they farm to keep the farm. Banks were going out of buisness. Good farming land was becoming limited.Greenbacks were taking out of gov circulation. Farmers had to pay back loans in dollars. Which was more than they paid to start.Farmers paid high amounts to the railroads.
