Two Confirmed Deaths in Iowa from the Flu

Last Friday, it was confirmed by the Iowa Department of Public Health that there has been two confirmed deaths resulting from the flu. One being in Northwest Iowa from a elderly woman. The other was a middle aged woman in central Iowa. These two deaths are the first ones of the 2019-2020 flu season. It has also been said that there has been an increase this year and that the flu is in just about every Iowa community. The people working behind these cases want to remind everyone that the flu is more than a tough cold, it can be a serious and fatal illness. It is strongly reccomended that everyone gets their flu shots soon. If you want to read more, click Here.

1. How efficient do you think the flu shot is?

I think it depends on the persons immune system. I think that the flu shot can totally backfire on the person, espescialy in young children.

2. Do you think that the flu targets certain ages of people?

I think it is easier for a young child or an old man to get the flu than a middle aged man or woman.

  • Good job replying Brennan. even though most of your replies are on two days. Only one was on the third day. Always be mindful of your questions if your answers to them are brief.

  • 1. Well, that all depends on the person recieving the flu shot. I myself react great and havea better resistance to the flu whilst my best friend on the other hand doesn't take the flu shot because the one time she got the shot she became very ill.

    2.  Yes I do. I believe if you're older or younger the flu will take more of a toll on you. When I say older I mean as in elderly. The times you are weakest to germs or diseases is when you're old and when you're very young.

  •     I believe that the flu shot is a must in America. The more you put off getting the shot the higher the risk of you getting the flu is. I think the elderly and infants are most at risk for the flu than anyone else. The flu njormally does target weaker immune systems anyways.

    • I also agree that the flu shot is pretty important. No matter what your environment or immune system is like. I also agree that children are more likely to get the flu and that the flu is targeting weaker immune system. Actually, I think that the flu attacks all immune systems, it just depends on who is the strongest.

  • I think the flu shot is important for everyone and it also depends on the persons own immune system and their life. I think younger kids can get the flu easier just because they are always around other kids who might not always wash their hands and stuff.

    • I agree, the flu shot, whether people doubt it or not, still has defense against the flu and your immune system. I also think that just because they're kids that they're less prone to being clean, therefore causing sickness among them in places like schools and daycares.

  • I agree with you. I think it does depend on the indiviual's immune system. Ultimately, the shot is still a dose of the virus, but I still believe it is benefical to get. I think it simply targets people with weaker immune systems because it is easier for them to get infected with virsus.

    • I agree, it also depends on their environment before the flu season. I also agree, in earlier years you might get a small dose of the flu and get sick from it, which is tough for a child, but will definitely help in the long run.

  • Personally I do not think that the flu shot is efficient and works, I understand the theory behind it and that it might work for very few people is definitely not helping in less cases but rather feed the amount of flu cases. Well the flu does target certain ages but babies and elders have a higher chance of having a weak immune system, so those groups are more likely to contract the flu due to their weak immune system. So, you could say that age and likeness to get the flu correlate.

    • If you look at the studies, it is proved that if you get the flu shot, you are much less likely to DIE from the flu shot. I don't understand the superstition of the authenticity of the flu shot. Even if it isn't very effective, it's still a helpful tool to helping you not die this flu season.
