Trump and the GOP Debate

Trump and the GOP Debate

Former President and current GOP (Grand old party) front runner Donald Trump recently went on an interview with former Fox news commentator and political talk show host Tucker Carlson. Trump hosted this interview with Carlson rather than going to a debate with other GOP candidates. Many republicans are mad while others gain more ground towards following Trump only expanding the GOP lead. Why are some Republicans mad and how has Trump held his ground?

The GOP debate was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Wednesday the 23rd of August. There were eight GOP candidates that spoke at the debate: Florida Gov.Ron Desantis, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former Vice President Mike Pence, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. Notice how none of these names were Donald Trump? Trump currently leads the GOP race with 52 percentage points. He leads the next nearest GOP candidate by 37.3 points a margin that is nearly impossible to close. Some polls have Trump leading by 40 or 50 points which shows more indication that Trump will win the GOP nomination.

So, why are some republicans mad? When Carlson interviewed Trump, he was not asking any hard questions or even pushing Trump on important topics. Many conservatives have come out and said that Carlson was throwing soft softballs at Trump. One question even invited Trump to attack Pence stating “You have always been nice to Pence?”  Trump, however, did not feel the need to attend the debate because he thought it was “a waste of an hour or two.” Trump has held his ground, even through his indictments however. Many of Trump's voters who are middle to far right conservatives go with his statements that the media is just trying to take him down. These pushes to “try to take him down” often have the wrong effect on the voters and only push voters towards Trump.

To recap, Trump is 35%-40% above the next republican candidate and is on pace to win the GOP nomination. Trump skipped the GOP debate because he thought it was a waste of time and didn’t want to be yelled at by 8 people. Carlson’s interview was like teeball to many conservatives, and the media is just pushing Trump voters towards Trump.

Do you think Trump is right about not attending the GOP debate?

Will Trump win the GOP nomination or will another candidate catch up? If so, who?

Should the media keep trying to take down Trump?

  • Great topic choice Levi and well done!!

  • I think trump made the right choose by not going. Social media and everyone tries to always make things look worse then they really are.  I think trumps votes will probably be high because people like him, but I dont know if there high enough for him to win.

  • I think trump made a very good decsion not going to the debate. Due to the so called legal trouble he is in i think it was the right decsion.  I also think the media keeps bashing trump for everything he does since day one. KInda weird they don't do that for anyone else only him.  I think trump will win the GOP nomination he is a very smart guy and a better guy then the media will ever make him out to be.

  • I think Trump made a good choice choosing not to go to the GOB debate. I think Trumps points will stay high but I'm not sure who will win. The media tries taking every celebrity down so they will probably keep trying to take Trump down.

  • I think Trump made the correct move not going to the Gop debate. I also think Trump is almost guaranteed to win the nomination with the lead that he has on all of the other candidates. The media needs to stop trying to take him down because a lot of the things that they are saying are mostly fake news.

  • Trump was right not going to the debate. He's already going to win the GOP nomination so I agree that "it would be a waste of an hour or two". The media needs to chill out and stop going for Trump all the time.

    • I think that if the media stopped going for Trump, they would have nothing to talk about. A lot of the news these days is about Trump and what he does, especially the indictments.

  • I think Trump made a good choice to not decide to go to the GOP debate. He is going to win the GOP nomanation anyway, but with all of the stuff that is happening to him he did the good thing and decided to not show up.

  • I think that Trump made a good decision about not going to the debate. He already has a lot going on with all of his legal issues and drama. I think he did this in hopes that this will help him out in the long run and not make the media hate him more.

  • It made sense for Trump to not attend the GOP debate. He's almost guaranteed to win the GOP nomination so why should he go to debate that might hurt his campaign. I don't think that any other republican candidate will catch up to Trump. I think that the media can't do anything other than split the country apart more if they continue attacking Trump. What needs to happen is that his trials need to be held.
