The history of Track and Field.

Track and field began in the Olympics in Ancient Greece in 776 B.C. The track started blooming in the 1860s. Track and field was created because of religious events and celebrations for the Greek gods so men could show off their athletic abilities. The modern Olympic Games played a significant role in the popularizing of track and field worldwide. The first things created were sprinting races, long jump, and throwing events. There are many more events today that you can participate in.

Nowadays, Track is a very competitive and popular sport that shows amazing athleticism. The track events now are sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus, and many more. In high school, track is a very good experience, it shows the school your athletic abilities and you get to compete with different schools and people. Track is a very mental sport, you have to be willing to work as hard as you can and to allow yourself to push through very tough races and events.

I am currently in track and I enjoy it. Although track can be draining at times, I think it is all worth it in the end. I run 400’s, 400 hurdles, and occasionally shuttle hurdles and 100 hurdles. At times these events can be tiring and can get me in the wrong mindset. Ever since I've been participating in track, I've learned that not every race is going to go how you picture it and you will have bad meets which you will have to accept and push yourself to be better next time.

    • I agree with you!

  • I used to do track but I decided to quit because it never brought me joy and just made me tired and frustrated. I think high school sports should be more about enjoying yourself and wanting to be there. When I was in track, I enjoyed running the mile because it was a nice change from cross country and it was almost relaxing to run.

    • Track can be a frustrating sport, it is not for everyone.

  • I do not do track but I did the last 2 years. My favorite even was the 100 meter dash and my favorite to watch was also the 100 because I am not the fastest and its cool to watch some poeple so fast run. I dont think I will consider track for the rest of high school as in middle school I did not like it much.

  • I do not do track. I don't do track because I do not really enjoy running for fun. I don't have a favorite event because I do not watch track, if I did have a favorite it would be the long jump. I don't think I would ever consider going out for track because I do not like to run.

  • For the past 3 years I have been running track. I like to watch the hurdle races and the 800's. I like to run 1500's and 800's. If anyone is not in track, but likes to compete, I recommend trying this sport. Being in track doesn't necessarily mean you need to like running. Being in track means you like to compete, work hard, and be with friends.

  • I did track my freshman year but decided not to continue it this year. My favorite race to run was the 4X800 meter relay, this is my favorite because you have a team helping each other and by the time you get to the second lap your legs are numb so you just run.

    • The 800 race seems like a tough race to run, but you always managed to make it not look so tough!

  • I do track I like to either run the 1 mile or the 2 mile since I am a distance guy. I probably like watching people do long jump because you can see how long they jump and that is pretty fun to watch I would say.

    • I don't think I could ever run the mile or two miles. The long jump is an interesting event to watch because everyone has different techniques.
