The history of Track and Field.

Track and field began in the Olympics in Ancient Greece in 776 B.C. The track started blooming in the 1860s. Track and field was created because of religious events and celebrations for the Greek gods so men could show off their athletic abilities. The modern Olympic Games played a significant role in the popularizing of track and field worldwide. The first things created were sprinting races, long jump, and throwing events. There are many more events today that you can participate in.

Nowadays, Track is a very competitive and popular sport that shows amazing athleticism. The track events now are sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus, and many more. In high school, track is a very good experience, it shows the school your athletic abilities and you get to compete with different schools and people. Track is a very mental sport, you have to be willing to work as hard as you can and to allow yourself to push through very tough races and events.

I am currently in track and I enjoy it. Although track can be draining at times, I think it is all worth it in the end. I run 400’s, 400 hurdles, and occasionally shuttle hurdles and 100 hurdles. At times these events can be tiring and can get me in the wrong mindset. Ever since I've been participating in track, I've learned that not every race is going to go how you picture it and you will have bad meets which you will have to accept and push yourself to be better next time.

  • Good topic choice and great jon replying to students. I would like to see the history include US history and some of the athletes that made track and field what it is a today.

  • I used to be a manager for track I never actually did the sport but I admire the people that do. I enjoy watching the 100-meter and the throwers are my favorite events to watch. I don't think I would consider this because it is during soccer season.

  • I used to do track but stopped doing it this year. I really enjoy watching the open 400 and the open 800, but I like running the 4x400. I am considering doing it again next year but it depends.

    • I think that it is worth a try to see if you like it or not.

  • I do track and mt favorite event to do has to be either the 400m or the 200m dash. I also think doing the 4x100 can be really fun if you have a fast group to run it with. A lot of people do track to stay in shape and generally be healthy overall.

    • Track can benefit you in many ways even though it can be a tough sport.

  • I have never done track and I don't plan on ever doing track either. I like to either watch like the hurdles or maybe the 100m race. I will probably not ever do track because I don't like to run, but if I did do track I would probably do like throwing or something.

  • I do track and I enjoy it. My favorite event is high jump because that is what I am best at but for running probably any 100 in a relay. I am out for track but I do say people should do it because it makes you in shape and you will be more healthy.

    • I agree with you. Track can get you in shape for your fall, winter, and summer sports.

  • I am not in track but my favorite race to watch would have  to be the 100m. I will probley never go out for track because I don't like running that much but if I did do track I would probly do one of the events like shot put that I wouldn't have to run in.
