The History of Air Travel

Traveling by plane is one of the most efficient and fast ways to travel to a new place. However, it wasn’t always so accessible to people. The first beginning thoughts of air travel was inspired by flying kites. More experimenting and testing led to the first plane made by the Wright brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright. The evolution of planes changed a lot along the way with the first passenger planes being extremely uncomfortable. Around 1914-1927, planes were only big enough to hold the pilot and a few passengers-usually rich, luxury passengers. The plane rides were known to be loud, exposed to the wind and weather, and harsh. During this time, the prices for plane rides were extremely expensive and only the high status citizens were able to afford the tickets.

Fast forward to 1927-1941, the plane rides were still uncomfortable, but a lot more advanced than the beginning flights. While the planes had been updated, they still had a lot of challenges like being unpressurized, which led to having bumpier rides. The invention of planes wasn’t made for transportation, so it was very unheard of for citizens to travel by plane. After World War II, traveling by plane became more and more popular. This was due to new technological advances for building planes to be more accessible and comfortable. Engineers had to transition planes from military grade, to being made to transport citizens. This was just the start of the air travel era, and it would only continue to grow more in the future.

The planes made in the present time are known for transporting large amounts of people and also cargo and supplies. Planes have adapted tremendously from small, single passenger carriers, to huge, modernized planes that can transport over 800 people. Planes in today's world have powerful jets, pressurized cabins, and some even have double floors. They have been made with helpful technology to map out the flight and other planes flying in the surrounding areas. They have been made specifically for traveling and getting the best possible experience while traveling with different airlines.

In today’s world, traveling by plane is considered normal and a very effective way to get somewhere. I think that the invention of the plane and the idea to travel from place to place by plane has made the world a lot more accessible and efficient. I don’t know how people and supplies would get across the world so easily without planes. It was definitely a breakthrough way of travel and transportation for the whole world.

  • Yes, I love to travel to new places because it gives you the chance to go to new places. My favorite place that I went to was colarado, I don't think that there is anything that gets you to places faster than planes but maybe if you go by boat you should get there pretty fast.

  • Yes I love to travel and see new places and different ways people live their life in a place that people love to travel too. My favorite place to travel to is flordia or minisota. Other ways that could be effifient would be trains or cars. But it also depends on how far you are going.

    • I agree that trains can be an efficient way of travel, but they aren't very accessable in the United States.

  • I love to travel to new places. I enjoy seeing the world. My favorite place I have been to would have to be Florida. The weather is far better than what we have in Iowa and there are many tourist attractions. Most importantly, I love the going to the beach.

  • I do like to travel a lot because it is fun to see the world and its different places. My favorite place I have been to would have to be the carrabien islands which was really fun and got to meet people that were really nice. Other ways I like to travel is by boat like cruises because it is big and lots of things to do while traveling to your next destination.

    • Boats and cruises are also a efficient way of travel because they can hold lots of people and cargo.

  • I do like to travel to new places. My favorite place I've been to has to be Florida because the climate is the best and there is ocean on both sides of Florida which makes it even better. Also, Flordia has many great football programs which I experienced first time when I went to Florida for the FBU TopGun showcase.

  • I usually travel to one new place a year while on vacation with my family. We try to go to places that interest us as well as places we have not visited before. Recently, we went to visit Nashville, Tennessee, and it was awesome! There were so many artists and famous museums. We even got to go to a concert!

  • I don't usually travel to new places, if I ever do travel, it is by car. I know that when I was young I would travel to different places but I don't really remember those places. The farthest that I usually go now, is up to 4 hours away. I think that cars can be as efficient as planes, they can be less expensive even if it takes longer.

    • I agree that cars are also an efficient way of travel. Some cars have good gas-mileage which can be cheaper for traveling.
