Should we lessen the use of antibiotics

An antibiotic is a type of fungi that stops the growth of a disease, fungi, or infection. The fungi that stops a disease, fungi, or infections is called penicillin which is found in soil and was discovered in 1930 by Alexander Fleming.

Alexander discovered this by leaving a petri dish over the holidays to discover a growth of Staphylococcus( staph infection most commonly found in the nose of healthy people/ really common for wrestlers to get). He found that the fungi(penicillin) growing around it was stopping the infection from spreading further.

The main use of antibiotics is to stop the spread of infection. But research is finding out that these viruses are becoming immune to the antibiotics or are not as effective anymore. Scientists believe that since we have been using the same type of bacteria for antibiotics since the 70’s that the bacteria are evolving to not be affected by this anymore. And since not a lot of research has been done on antibiotics since the 70’s it might be too late to make a new one.

There might be some solutions to our problems though. Like instead of giving out antibiotics for an upset stomach or a common cough just let it heal itself. And almost 70% of doctors prescribe antibiotics without further look into what is actually happening. To sum it up we basically need to stop giving out so many antibiotics.

Do you think we should lessen the use? Why or why not?

  • Good topic choice Jacob! Your summary is good but be sure to include your thoughts as well in the issue. I also think you could have replied a couple more times.

  • I think that we do need to lessen the use of antibiotics because eventually our bodies will be too used to them and fight back against them. Or they will be unhelpful against bacteria or sicknesses. We then will have to find diffrerent antibiotics or make differerent ones just so we can feel better when we are sick.

  • I think that we should lessen the ue of antibiotics. It may be hard, but there are other and more natural ways to do these things. It may take you body some time to get use to doing it a more natural way, but over all it would be better for your body.

  • Yes we need to drastically lessen use or find something similar because viruses that used to be the smallest worries are now becoming resistant to the antibiotics and are killing some people that are at great risk of these viruses.

    • Yes I agree with your decision I think that we need to lessen the use of antibiotics because if we keep using them then the viruses will become immunie to the biotic and I also agree that these resisant viruses are killing people now even if they use antibiotics.

  • I think that we should definetely lessen the use of antibiotics. I think that if we keep using them whenever then we will just speed up the process. People should start learning natural ways to cure things. I think that using less pills would be better for us anyway.

    • I agree, I agree that we shouldn't just completely cut off the use of antibiotics becasue then we might acutalty be in trouble but for now just slowing the use might help with the cuase of the resistant viruses. I also agree that if you really want to take it you can and if you don't you don't.

  • I personally think that we should lessen the use of antibiotics. There probably are way to many different antibiotics in the world today and could cause harm to others if theu're not careful.

  • In my opinion, I believe that we shouldn't use that much less antibiotics, but instead start research for a different kind of antibiotic that the bacteria haven't evolved to become resistant to. I believe this because the antibiotics are very helpful in patients being healthy. If the disease was a lot worse than expected, then if they did get the antibiotics, everything would be ok, while if they didn't get it, it would spread and not be very good. The viruses that is evolving to withstand the antibiotics will probably evolve in the future, so it's just whether people get the antibiotics now or later.

    • I agree with what you said I like that you explored a different option than just not using them. I like that you are saying that we should try to explore new antibacterial fungi that will also stop the reproduction of bacteria and not evolve to become resistant to it.
