Should the NBA get rid of the All-Star Game?

One of the most talked about things in sports are All-star games. All-star games are entertaining you get to watch the best athletes go head-to-head. The NBA players have not been trying in the All-Star game for a while now because they do not want to injure themselves. Many people still want to watch the best try and go head to head and see who wins. Let's discuss the reasons for keeping and getting rid of this event on each side of this debate.

We are going to start off with the reasons to keep the All-Star game. To start off, people still love watching the All-Stars take crazy shots to show their ability. With the All-Star game comes the contest that they did before. These contests include three-point, slam dunk, celebrity games, rookie games, and skills challenges. Many people love watching these contests so they do not want All-star games. Many people still love the new way they do the All-Star game. What they do is have two of the best players in the league draft out of the All-Stars and then you go play a game. There have been mixed opinions on that but it seems like a good amount of people like it.

Now we will be talking about the other side of the story. To begin with, the players aren’t putting in the effort that people like to see. Kobe Bryant once talked about how he liked trying in the All-Star game because people want to watch the best players go head to head. What he was saying was how some people don’t even care to try for the people who watch. Some NBA players don’t even go in the contest like Ja Morant did not want to do the dunk contest. The main reason is players do not want to get injured and ruin their careers. So that is why they talk about getting rid of the All-Star game.

Do you think that injuries are too much of a risk and that they should get rid of the All-Star game?

Do you think they could just keep that contest and have no games?

Should the NBA players still try to give it their all?

  • Good job overall Dallas! I do think talking about the history of the NBA All-Star game would have been a good idea.

  • I think the All Star game is really a cool thing and so many people go from all over to watch their favorite players. However I can see it being very risky to have a star player play in the All Star game and get injured. Not to mention the All Star game is mainly just for fun and players dont play it near as seriously as they would in a real game so should they take the risk of injuring themselves for a game for fun?

  • yes its a huge risk to to have their star player play in the all star game when there is a good chance they tear anything at any given time form landing wrong or something. They should get rid of the all star and make a new one like the all star just for the people that ride bench.

  • I think that the All Star game is a good way to bring in a lot of money. People pay a lot to watch all of thier favorite players play in one game. But, it is probably a big risk of getting injured, and that might just not be a great decision.

    • I agree that it is a good way to bring in money but the injuries that could happen are not worth it to some people.

  • I think the NBA and other sports should get rid of the all-star games or at least make them less likely to get injured. Also the players that do play the all-star games don't try or really care about them. However for the players that do make the all-star games get put on their career stats which is a very good thing to achieve they could just put on their career stats .

  • I think the NBA should get rid of the all-star game because, in a lot of people's eyes, it is a very boring game. After all, the players do not care as much as a real game. It is played more like a scrimmage than a game. But the contests are very interesting a fun to watch which I think they should keep.

    • I do agree that it gets boring in a lot of peoples eyes but towards the end the game can get interesting.

  • I think that injuries are too much of a risk. Because of injury, the NFL has switched to no tackle for the pro bowl. Before they switched, the pro bowl was pretty boring to watch as many of the players did not go full force or all out like a normal game. I think that the NBA should keep the contests like the dunk and 3 point.

    • I agree that injuries are too much of a risk towards careers. Although the matches still can get interesting towards the end of the match.
