Lap belts were what people would usually choose but in accidents you had the potential to cause separation of the lumbar vertebrae. By 1965 all states had laws to require seat belts in vehicles.

People's opinions opposed to seatbelts claims that “As long as the life risked is his own, I believe the individual should decide whether or not to use safety belts is wise.” Ralph Nader published his best selling book in 1965 ‘Unsafe at any Speed’. A decade later nearly 40,000 people died in the US from car accidents.
“Ineffective, inconvenient and uncomfortable” are the thoughts of drivers that participated in a survey in 1985. People would go as far as cutting the seatbelts out. In my opinion I think for the people's safety and yours in the car you should wear one. If you are alone in your car I guess it’s really up to you but I still think it’s a good thing to have a law on seat belts.

Yes, I think that everyone should be required to wear a seat belt even if you are just going down the road, but everyone is in control of your own life. Anything bad can happen at any point that is why people get into crashes. Everyone needs to buckle.
Yes, I think we should be required to wear seat belts. Because, if you get into a wreck and you dont have your seat belt on you can go through the wind shshield and die. I think teens especially need to wear one because they arnt always the smartest drivers and are more likely to crash.

I disagree bc say your friend is wearing a seat belt and you get in a crash and the person who isn't wearing the seatbelt can fly around anywhere inthe car and you could hurt or kill the person who was being safe and wearing the seatbelt.
I think that we should be required to wear seatbelts. Statistically, the majority of fatal car accidents happen when the deceased wasn't wearing a seatbelt. These laws aren't put into place for no reason, and I think that this law should stay in place for our safety.

Yes, I think that we 100% be required to wear a seat belt in a car because it would honestly be stupid if you didn’t. I am working on getting my license so that I can get from place to place safely by myself and wearing a seat belt could very much affect that. I actually knew someone that passed away in a semi-accident from not wearing a seat belt so this is very important to me. You never really know what could happen on the road until it happens to you. So… for the love of god wear your seatbelt and don’t be an idiot.
