All across the country students have to take the standardized test for their states. However, some parents don't think that their children should have to take them because they aren't learning anything from the tests and it's not helping them gain anymore knowledge. Most parents and some teachers think that there shouldn't be one set standard to how children should be evaluated. People don't think that their is enough time to teach everything, and so everything that the teachers have to teach so the children will be ready for these test wouldn't be taught well enough for every child to understand. On the other side state people say that you have to have something to base where the child is at educationally. They say that opting out of the tests takes away a very important tool that teacher can use to understand how the child is doing in school.

Who do you agree with and why?

Do you think that every child should take these tests?

  • Good choice of topic and well done!

  • I agree that standardized tests do not test a students intelligence very well. I do not think that all children should be required to take tests like these.

  • i can agree with what you are saying because these test might not help us in the future. I think that if the child wants to take the test then they can.

  • I don't think standardized tests paint an accurate picture of all students.  The test does not allow for different learning styles.  I don't think children should have to take the standardized tests.

    • I agree that these tests won't help teachers and parents to know what every child knows.

  • I think it's a great idea because it could help teachers to know which student needs help in a certain subject but some students are really smart and don't do great in school.

  • I don't think that standardized student testing is all good, but it is good to see a student reading level and other levels in school. This helps teachers know if the students needs extra help or needs to advance in other areas.

    • I agree that this will help teacher to know what a child is struggling with.

  • I think the tests are to show how much knowledge the kids have.

  • I honestly think the whole school system is flawed not pretty much right after elementary school. Most people won't need to know anything that they learn in math classes past multiplication and division, while most concepts in English aren't completely necessary to know past basic grammar and vocabulary, and most sciences aren't necessary to most people in the real world. And putting everything on a standardized test isn't really going to prove much of anything, especially when it's possible to completely guess and still get the answer right 25% of the time. So yes, I understand not taking the tests, but I'm typically the kind of person to just go along and just not cause problems.
