Oxford Highschool School Shooting

On November 30th, Ethan Crumbley, 15 years old, walked into Oxford Highschool with a gun in his backpack. He had a meeting with school offficials that morning regarding his concerning behavior. They let him go back to class and that's when trouble started. He had opened fire on his classmates. He killed 4 kids, and injured 8. Among the four who died were Madisyn Baldwin, 17, Tate Myre, 16, Hana St. Juliana, 14, and Justin Shilling, 17.

When police recovered the firearm, a 9mm Sig Sauer SP2022 semiautomatic pistol, there had been 18 bullets left in the magazine. There had been over 30 shots fired, three 15-round magazines had been emptied. Crumbley ran from the police, later found a few days later.

Michigan law prevents police from taking a juvinile without parental permission. Since Crumbley is only 15, his parents refused permission and requested for a lawyer. Crumbley has been charged as an adult with one count of terrorism causing death, four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to murder, and twelve counts of a firearm during comission of a felony.

Crumbley's father had bought the gun for his son four days before the shooting. Crumbley's parents had been in a meeting with school officials twice before the incident. There had been posts online about Crumbley's desire to hurt kids in his school. School officials did not know that he had a firearm on him.

  • Katie,

Good summary but be sure to comment more frequently as that part of your grade is worth 30 points.

  • I think Crumbley is definitely the one to blame for having no good reason to shoot up a school. I think it's horrible what happened. I think schools have to do better to prevent these things from happening. It is very sad that four people died and the students that were injured.
  • He for sure was not innocent just because he was in a poor state of mind. While I do believe he should get help with that I don't believe all of his punishments should be void. Killing 4 people and injuring 8, who all had families, who are all most likely devasted that their son/daughter was killed would be devasted and also angry that the person who killed their children is getting away scott free simply because they had a mental oopsies.

  • Yes, I think that Crumbley is guilty because you don't accidently bring a gun to school and kill 4 people and injure 8. I don't think he should get away with doing that just because he wasn't in the right frame of mind. I think you should have to pay for the crimes you commit.

  • Of course he is guilty he brought a gun to school and killed 4 people.

My thoughts are that they shouldent have sent him back to class they could have sent him home if they were concernded about what was wrong with him but they dident.

  • Yes, I think he is guilty because he was responsible for bringing a gun to school and starting shooting people, I think Oxford high school should have done a better job on correcting the kid's conduct and being more in touch with his parents.

  • Crumbley should be guilty. He brought a gun to school and used it for direct harm. whats worse is that he atcully killed his peers. My thoughts about the shooting is taht im confused. We dont know why he did it but just knew he had the thought of. Did he has classmates he hated, was he just mentaly ill. There are many question that are unanswered.

  • Crumbley is 100% guilty, there is no way that he isn't. He very obviously did it. There is proof that he did it, the gun, the drawing, and there has to be cameras in that school to show that it was him. His mom even texted him, "Ethan, don't do it," right when he started the shooting. He did it. I feel terrible for the family's that lost their kids and the kids that had to expierence this.

  • I think that Crumbley is guilty. I don't believe anyone should get away with murder no matter the circumstances. I think the Oxford Highschool Shooting could have been avoided.

  • I think Crumbley is definitely guilty because there is no justifiable reason to shoot up a school. I think this is awful for what happened. I think schools need to do a better job so these events don't happen. It's sad that four people died and all of the students got injured.
