On Monday night a gunman opened fire at Michigan State University. For hours, students and staff members took shelter as this gunman went around and shot anyone he could. This caused 3 people to die and 5 to be in critical condition. Many of these students at MSU had gone through something like this before some have survived the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012 or the Oxford High School shooting in 2021. This all began at 8:18 pm with multiple gunshots inside Berkley Hall. Not long after that, the shooter started moving toward the MSU Union.
At 8:25 pm, many students heard gunshots near the food court, and they started running down flights of stairs to get outside. Finally, at 8:30 pm, MSU sent out an alert telling students to ‘’Run, Fight or Hide.’’ A handful of students barricaded their doors with large pieces of furniture. Some students reported that other people jumped out of windows to get to safety. An hour later the gunman was still on campus, now the shooting was over but multiple other attacks were reported, these reports turned out to be false. At 9 pm the gunman was reported to be on foot and walking away from the scene. Many SWAT cars and police officers were driving around to find this shooter.
Soon hours after the shooting took place the gunman was seen off campus walking around. When the police went up to him, he shot himself which resulted in his death. Another alert was later sent out via email and Twitter which revealed to the students that there were no more threats on campus. The officials lifted the shelter-in-place order, slowly students reunited with their friends. Most students didn't sleep that night, some stayed with their friends talking about everything that just happened.
What would you do if you were in this situation?
Do you think MSU or any college should have a plan in place in case this happens again?
What would you do if a loved one called you and told you they were in this situation?

Good job overall Vylet! I would like to see more of your opinions and thoughts within your summary.
I feel like as an American student I have always had an idea of what I would do. We have grown up around school shootings and drills all our lives. I also feel like instead of just the mindless drills that schools do, they should do them more seriously. It feels like we aren't doing enough to try and protect students from this horror. I and others shouldn't fear for our lives when we go to school.
Until someone is in this situation they have no idea what they would do, their body would be in shock. I think that all places should have a plan in place for in case something happens no matter how unlikely it is to happen there is always a chance of something like this happening. I would probably pray for them and hope for them to live if I knew someone that this happened to.
If I were in this situation I would be terrified and I would want to find a way to get help as fast and safely as I could. I think that all colleges and schools should have a plan to stay safe if something like this happens again. If a loved one called me to tell me they were in this situation I would be very worried and try my best to comfort them and inform them that they were going to be okay.
It must be really hard to make a plan for a shooting. Because if there is a plan, the students know, and if there is a plan, then it will probably be on the internet. All of this means that the potential future shooters will be aware of this plan and will work around it.
I totally agree with you. A lot of the stuff that teens/young adults do now goes all over the internet, I do think that they should be better at alerting the students.
If I were in that situation, I would be terrified. I believe colleges should put a plan in place, just in case it happens. If a loved one called me and told me they were in that situation, I would be scared and sad.
I agree that they should have some sort of plan, though a lot of the students did hide in their dorms there were still a lot of students that were in the food court they should have some safe space that they can go to instead of jumping out of the building.
If i was in this istuation i would be freaking out and very scared for me and for everyone at the school. I think that all colleges and schools should have better plans for wehn something like this happens. I couldnt imagine if i saw this happen on the news or even if someone told me, its heartbreaking and scary
If I were in this situation I would be terrified and worried for everyone at the school. I think all colleges should have a better plan in place for when shootings happen. I cannot imagine if I saw on the news that there was a shooting where someone I knew was at.
