Mandela Effect

Is it “Barenstein Bears” or “Barenstain Bears” - This is one of the most famous examples of The Mandela Effect. What is the Mandela Effect? In simple terms, the Mandela Effect is a shared false memory in a large group of people. Everyone remembers a certain thing, when it is actually completely different. More than half of the population recall that they have been effected by the Mandela Effect. Another popular example of the Mandela effect is, Mickey Mouse having a tail or not. Mandela Effects can be super controverisal. People have arguements between a false memory and a real thing.

When did The Mandela Effect start? The Mandela Effect has been around for a while, but it started getting lots of attention in the past 10+ years. Fiona Broome, a paranormal researcher / author, recalled Nelson Mandela dying while in prison in the 1980s. When in reality he was alive. That’s how the Mandela Effect got its name. Fiona Broom did lots of research, and asked people about Nelson Mandela. Many people thought the same thing about him. Fiona Broome was very intrigued about why so many people had the same false memory. She later created a website and wanted other people to share their thoughts to see if everyone thought the same. This caused the Mandela Effect to go viral.

Currently, the Mandela Effect is a popular trend on Tiktok, with Nelson Mandela being the face of the Mandela Effect. Except, most of those “Mandela Effects” are not real. They are just trying to funny. I personally have experienced some of the more popular Mandela Effects. It is so interesting how we can remember things certain ways, and it actually being totally different.

Here are some more examples of the Mandela Effect -

  • Jif Peanut Butter or Jiffy Peanut Butter
  • Looney Tunes or Looney Toones
  • Oscar Mayer or Oscar Meyer
  • Kit Kat or Kit-Kat
  • Pikachu having a stripe on his nail or not
  • Monopoly man having monocle or not

  • Very interesting topic and well done Mikayla!

  • Personally, I feel that the Mandela Effect is a very weird thing that happens, but I still don't get how it happens. I believe that the Mandela Effect is real, it is just hard for me to understand how a huge group of people remember something different then it actually was.

  • I definitely believe the Mandela effect is real. I believe it's simply just when people falsely believe the wrong thing. It's basically just a coincidence. I notice this happen to me a lot, and I think it just has to do with how well you remember specific details.

  • The Mandela effect is a very underecognised and unappreciated phenomenon. What is really interesting is when huge groups a people think that it is one thing, when really it is the other. It truely shows the psycology of people and how just the little things can have the biggest effect.

    • I agree with you saying the mandela effect is very unappreciated.

  • It is weird that there is the mandela effect because a lot of people think that there is things they think looks or speels that way but actually isn't. I believe in the mandela effect because that's what people think it is and how their brain thinks is correct.

  • I feel like the Mandela effect is so weird, i feel lke there are a lot of things that have change that i thought were something else, but i also feel like it were real people would be more aware of it. But personally i don't really belive in that kind of stuff but its just my opinion on it.

  • The Mandela effect is such a weird thing, when many people think something is not how it actually is. Yes, I believe in the Mandela effect, but sometimes it could just be the businesses changing their logos without making an announcement to the public.

    • I agree with you. I think that some mandela effects are just companies changing the logos and not telling anyone.

  • It's really strange how no one had asked that or how we hadn't even paid attention. I think that's the reason why now we're not sure about the appearance of some things like the line that Pikachu had or didn't have. Yes, I do believe in the Mandela effect, it is very interesting how so many people agree.
