ISIS Hates History?

Within the Middle East stands a temple that has sat on top of the soil of this Earth for approximately two thousand years. The Temple of Bel has been the center of religious life in Palmyra, Syria. It has said to have existed during the same age as when Jesus lived. This ancient piece of human history has with stood many different events and disaster without crumbling to the ground, but now something even great threatens it's being. ISIS claims that God has commanded them to destroy this temple, as well as many other ancient artifacts, in order to prevent the current generations from idolizing these works of art.

Why else do you think they are destroying these pieces of world history, if not by the grace of God?

How much hypothetical damage do you think these broken relics will cause to humanity?

or

What damage is being put on us from these damaged artifacts?

  • There were people you could have replied to. Be sure to do so. I also think that some of your questions used wrong wording-"hypothetical damage" as an example.

  • I think they are destroying it so that way people think they are stronger than everyone else.

  • I think they are destroying these relics so that they can crush a part of peoples beliefs. It's also a way to get rid of historical information.

  • I don't think god told them to I think that Isis is just trying to prove a point that they are not here in this world to mess around

  • That's interesting that the temple has stood that long. I'm not sure how or why God would destroy the temples and other historical items, but I would carefully watch over the artifacts closely. To some, especially those interested in history or historical rocks, this may worry them. Do you think ISIS would be saying this to distract from something else they have planned?

  • The ISIS destroy the historic landmarks because "God told them to do it" and because they don't agree with people treating these landmarks as if they were holy. They only believe in their own religion and want everyone to believe in it. They don't respect other religions or people with different religious beliefs and that's why they want  to destroy the places that other religions see as holy.  The damage that we have because of them destroying historical landmarks is that one day, if the ISIS won't be stopped by then, we won't have any landmarks  from ancient cultures left.

  • I think ISIS' real reason for destroying these historic landmarks is because it goes against their beliefs that they believe should trump over all others. There's also another motive that destroying these temples will damage the heritage and cultures of other countries, thus bringing down morale and make fear and doubt sink into people's minds. This is another way that they are trying to assume control of Syria and Iraq. This will definitely cause a lot of damage to thousands of people's cultures, since people have put so much hope and faith into these temples that define their faith and lifestyle, so seeing their destruction will effect them in devastating ways. Also, these relics and buildings can never be replaced. They've been around for thousands of years serving as reminders of the past and ISIS is destroying them like they're determined to destroy history. History is what defines us and without it I have no clue where humanity would be.

  • They could also be destroying them just because the artifacts do not agree with ISIS's own religious beliefs. This damage can ruin the possibility of future generations ever learning about the history behind the artifacts. These artifacts were big parts of history, and it is a shame to see some of the things from early on in human history being destroyed. Once they are gone, they are gone. You can not replace history.

  • They aren't doing it for the grace of god that just an accuse for them.

The damage this will cause is that the future generations of humanity wont be able to see these amazing works.
