Cheryl's Birthday math problem has been stumping people all over the internet. It was used as a problem for high school students who were participating in the Singapore and Asian School's Math Olympics. The problem gives you enough information that you should be able to find out when Cheryl's birthday is. However, most people can't seem to figure out when her birthday. Some people even think that this is the math equivalent to the what color is this dress. I don't think that this is true at all.

Here is the problem:

Can you figure out when Cheryl's birthday is?

Why do you think that most people can't figure this problem out?

  • Very interesting! Well done!

  • no because it is too much math and problem solving that i do not want to do. Most people can't figure out because they don't want to solve it.

  • the answer is July 16. The thing is you have to use what the 2 guys are saying to figure everything out. I would say that people don't really read what the problem is and don't get the clues they gave us.

    • I agree that you have to understand what both people are saying to understand how to get the answer.

  • I don't think that I could figure it out. People probably don't understand it or don't think that much about it.

  • I don't think I could figure it out because if a lot of people can't figure it out I probably couldn't

    • I agree that this problem takes a lot of thinking and a good thought processes.

  • I would have never been able to figure out this problem unless it weren't for the video giving me the answer. It doesn't make any sense to me even after watching the video, but yet I didn't really care about finding the answer either. I feel like if America could solve many economic and political issues if they spend as much time as they did trying to figure out this riddle and trying to figure out what color the dress is.

    • I agree I couldn't figure out what it was until I watched the video. I think that you make a great point that people should be putting their brains to work for something that will help either them or other people.

  • July 16th. It takes a lot of roundabout thinking, but I got to this on my own. Most people on the internet are either a) impatient, b) lazy, or c) don't actually understand it.
