History of Shaved Ice (Tropical Sno)

Have you ever wondered how and where things were invented? In this case, I will tell you about where shaved ice came from, you may also know it as Tropical Sno or a sno cone. Shaved ice has been around for a long time, but has continued to evolve over the years. The start of shaved ice was in 618-907 AD. And was created by using hand tools and ice blocks. This was reserved for royalty only, and was a huge luxury.

Shaved ice also has had a huge cultural significance in our world. It can be found all over the world, especially during a country's hot summer months. It's a huge staple in Japanese summer festivals and celebrations. Shaved ice is also commonly known in Hawaii, due to Japanese immigrants in the 1900’s bringing over the popular treat. Shaved ice quickly became a favorite treat among Hawaiians and visitors.

In recent years, shaved ice has become more popular and more modern for our day. Electric ice shavers were invented, and popularity began to spread. It's now available in restaurants, food trucks, and even homes. Now they are creating more flavors, and topping that will create new experiences for people. Overall, I think shaved ice has came a long way, and will  only continue to get better as time goes on. Personally, I love shaved ice, it's one of my favorite desserts.

  • I do like shaved ice, I think that it is just very refreshing in the hot summer months. I have tried Tropical Snow in Harlan and I think that they do a good job running the "truck." I think that shaved ice is going to continue to be popular and evolve even more than it already has.

  • I do like shaved ice because it is a nice cool down treat for the summer time. I have had tropical snow in harlna before. I do believe it will continue to get more and more popular because it is a nice treat that is hard to hate.

    • I would agree, I think the more people find out about it, the better and more popular it wil come. Escpecially if its talked about more and is at more events.

  • I like shaved ice, it is a nice treat to have especially in the summer. I have had Tropical Sno in Harlan, and I thought it was very good. I think shaved ice will get better as the years go on, because people will expirenment more and more with different flavors and combos.

  • I love shaved ice it is like popsicals but better. I have been to tropical snow in harlan and only harlan. I honstly think that it will not incress because lots of parents dont want to pay $6 for shaved ice and flavoring. I beleave that parents will learn how to make it.

    • While making your own is an option, when buying store bought product it may not taste as good, or compare to what tropical sno makes. With the pricing, some of it is inflation.

  • I liked shaved ice, its soft and it's fun, and easy to eat. I think shaved ice is an alternative to ice cream for people who are lactose intolerant. I have had Tropical Sno In Harlan I like it and would highly recommend it to anyone, there are so many flavors and toppings to choose from. I think it will keep going, but I'm not sure.

  • I kind of like shaved ice but I would much rather choose an icecream place. I have had tropical Sno in Harlan but I would rather choose border fare or dq. I think it will continue to grow just because a lot of people like it, especially in the summer.

  • I never tried shaved ice before. No I haven't and I don't know what it tastes like.  It maybe will or won't you never know.

    • Well one day I hope you decided to try it! Its very delicious and a great treat to try!
