History of Scooter's

In California, in the 1990s, Don and Linda Eckles had an idea. While there were many coffee shops that you could stop and sit in, they were not reasonable for busy customers. After Linda and Don discovered a drive-thru coffee shop, they decided to create their own coffee shop that was efficient. In 1998, the first Scooter's was founded and opened, then known as, Scooter's Java Express, in Bellevue, Nebraska. They came up with the name by starting with their goal, to provide customers with a fast experience that allowed them to "scoot in and scoot out" with their coffee, which allowed them to land on the name, Scooter's. At the first location, Linda would work the drive-thru window while Don would make the coffee in the back. After working at the first location for some time, Linda got the idea to put smiley-face stickers on every cup to show the friendly and fast service their business was known for.

Don and Linda had a simple method for success for their coffee shop, to have a good location, high-quality, delicious drinks, fast and speedy service, and a big smile with a happy attitude. Their simple method drew many customers in that loved how they ran their business. This allowed Don and Linda to rapidly grow their business in the Omaha area until they started franchising.

By 2001, Scooter's already had 5 stores. The Eckles decided they wanted to franchise their business to see how their creation could expand and grow. The first Scooter's franchise was in Council Bluffs, Iowa, followed by hundreds more. In 2005, they changed the name to Scooter's Coffeehouse to display a more modern profile to help attract coffee-lovers who wanted a high-quality and tasty drink. They also redesigned their logo, a third time, to help bring a new era and look to the business. Finally, in 2011, they changed the name, one last time, to Scooter's Coffee and they now have over 600 locations.

  • No, I'm not too fond of coffee I think it is too strong and tastes bad. I have been to scooters one time and had a peanut butter deal, which was pretty good. My favorite thing to order from scooters is peanut butter power because it is the only thing I have had there.

  • I do like coffee but it has to have a creamer because I am not a fan of black coffee but I could also grow into it. I do like to go to scooters because it has good drinks but also has breakfast. My favorite thing to order is an Vanilla Iced Latte with a breakfast borrito.

    • I also like flavored coffee with some type of creamer in it, but not black coffee. I also get the iced vanilla latte.

  • I do like coffee, but I don't get it very often and it's not my first choice. I like to go to Scooter's because I live near it and it's easy to go to. I normally just get a smoothie or the passion fruit infusion.

    • I also like coffee, but usually choose a smoothie or some type of infusion over it.

  • I don't like drinking coffee but I do like other kind of drinks. I do go to scooters every now and then but just not all the time. I think my favorite things to get from scooters might have to be the Maple Waffle Sandiwch because I like it a lot or it would be one of the Infusion drinks.

    • While I do like drinking coffee, I also like the maple waffle sandwich and the infusion drinks.

  • I don't minds coffee but I don't drink it regularly. I've been to scooters once so I don't really have a favorite thing to order

  • I don't like coffee very much, but I like the other options Scooters has. I go to Scooters sometimes because I really like how fast the drinks are made. I also really like how nice the staff is and how they are always friendly at the window. My favorite thing to order is a strawberry mango vertigo.

    • I also like how fast Scooter's makes their drinks and their friendly workers. I also like the vertigo smoothies from Scooter's.
