Facebook vs Ning

I don't know about you guys, but I think that facebook and ning are like the same thing. You can do the exact same things on ning that you can on facebook. The only thing about facebook is the you can't post "blogs" unless you just do wall posts. On ning you can update your status, comment on pictures, have friends, comment on other profiles, chat.... sounds just like facebook! So, why would facebook need to be blocked if this website is like the exact same thing?? The only reason I can think why it would be blocked is because you might be distracted by facebook, but I think that since we are highschoolers we should be able to make our own choices on our distractions. But, you can do things on ning that could be just as distracting as facebook. I think that it would give us a lesson on how to be more responsible, and I'm not trying to hate on ning or anything I was just saying...

What do you guys think??

  • nah. facebook. ning isnt the same.
    • Well, I would expect no student to like Ning better than Facebook because they associate Ning with school and Facebook with friends. I can't compete with that.

Now imagine if Ning was the place you went to talk with friends and Facebook was my website. I really think many of you would like all the options of Ning better. Especially as you got older.
  • They aren't that much alike to me.. I like getting on Facebook, when I get on this website I think "Dangg, blogs.".
  • I also know that if a teacher used Facebook for instruction purposes, it could be unblocked.
  • on mr pickett's computers, it is unblocked. so its kind of unfair.
  • I have to say that I am normally for expanding the freedoms of students but I think my classes would struggle a lot more if Facebook was unblocked.

Ning and Facebook are social networks so they are the same in some ways. Each have their own benefits. Ning is more group oriented and works extremely well for education as it allows me to control the members and what goes on. Ning also has message boards and blogs.

Overall, I like Ning a lot more. If Ning ever went down(as it is free), I really would have to look at Facebook as my next website.
  • Ning is for school though. Bruns can read everything even private chats. It makes sense to block Facebook even though everybody knows how to get to it haha.
  • I really don't think it's the same at all. You don't have a forum with discussions on Facebook and there isn't any place to write blogs or anything. Also Facebook is all together while Ning has different networks and stuff.
