Do EHall Passes work?

Do you think that an EHall pass is useful for our school? This is the new debate our school is trying to reason out. In the past years, we have had a couple of different ways to be excused to the restrooms/halls. It seems that none of those ways worked out in the end. Do we really need a tracker of who is in the hallways or restrooms at all times? Are these decreasing problems? EHall Pass is starting to get used in several schools around the United States. Harlan has recently determined what EHall can do to stop our restroom/hall issues. A few days ago we started using passes on our phones/computers for whenever we need to leave the classroom so that the school can determine how many people get to use the restrooms/halls at a time. You get four passes a day, and have a time limit until you get a flag.

EHall pass is definitely beneficial in our school. Using these passes will allow only a certain amount of people to be out of the classroom at one time. This will prevent too many people in the hallway/restroom and will enable any issues to be caused. This will allow staff at school to know where students are located in the school. Some teachers also believe it will lower the amount of students that go to the restroom to vape.

Now EHall pass can be non-beneficial in different ways. This website tends to take a while for the actual pass to go through and get approved, which takes class time away from the student and teacher. After you leave the classroom and come back the teacher has to end this pass which also takes more class time away from the whole class. To fix this problem, they need to make it so that the students can start and end the hall pass on their own.

I have talked to a couple of teachers about the EHall pass and what their opinions on it are. One stated, “In the beginning, I thought it was going to be really bad, but once we started I have had little to no students ask me to use the restroom and I have not heard of any issues in the restrooms.” I then talked to a few students, and it seems that the student's views are not like the teachers. Most students think that it is a waste of our time. I personally think that it is beneficial outside of the classroom and in the restrooms. I, however, think it is very distracting in the classroom and seems to take more time out of class by taking out your phone/computer and filling out the pass.

  • Great topic choice and super job Paige!! Congrats on #1!

  • the e hall passes are ok but if a student really has to use the bathroom and the teacher doesnt accept the pass you could have an accident in the class room. plus I feel like the teachers have more power over our bathroom privligas than they should

  • `The EHall pass in usefull casue it keeps the bathrooms limited so not to many kids are messing around at once. But kids will still mess around, so it limits how loud the messing around is if anyhting. The EHall pass is an extreme version of the QR codes tracking time and location. The EHall pass does not problems just the size of problems.

  • I don't really ever need to leave the classroom for any reason in the first place, so this dosen't really apply to me. If the EHall pass is reducing problems that were previously transpiring though, then I see vary little problem with keeping it.

  • I don't think the E-hall passes are that effective. I honestly think having a peice of paper and writting on that was just simpler. I'm not saying they dont work im just sayinf they are more work for no reason.

  • I think there are a lot of good things about EHall passes. This helpes the school a lot since they can figure out where students are and what they're doing. However, for the student who are responsible, it's kind of annoying that this has to be a thing. For me personally, I would rather not have EHall passes but I do understand why some schools have started doing this.

  • Personally I do not think that EHall pass is very effective for kids because kids are still wasting time. By the time they take out the computer, log into it and sign a pass that takes around 3 minutes but that's without having any computer trouble or you have a dead computer. So when you get done signing in and signing a pass you have to wait for approval. Then after you use your EHall pass you have to have it get paused and then go back to class. So I think personally we should just stick to asking teachers.

  • I do think that EHall pass is beneficial, but I do not like it. One thing that I dislike about EHall pass is that it takes too much time to create one. I also think that those who vape and cause other problems will still find ways to do so. Overall, I think EHall pass minimizes the amount of problems in the hallways, but it is annoying.

  • Although EHall pass might not be fun, I think that they do work pretty well and are benificial for teachers and students. And I do personaly think that they work and are better than last year's qr codes because of the fact that they are more simplier. I do believe that they reduce promblems in restrooms and hallways.

    • I agree with you, last year QR codes were more simple but did not track us, students, as much and were not as beneficial.
