Does Mario Hit Bricks With His Head?

I was wondering if mario hits bricks with his head and I was looking really close and I am pretty sure he puts his fist up a little higher then his head when he makes contact with the bricks.

Obviously he hit the bricks with his head. No self respecting Mario would hit his head on every brick that comes his way.
