Do curfews keep teenagers out of trouble?

I believe that curfews keep some teenagers out of trouble. Statistics show that kids who have a curfew are less likely to get in trouble with law enforcement and their parents. Most cities have a curfew in their town, this can benefit the town but most parents believe having their own curfew set for their child is more beneficial. This leaves the child with a responsibility to get home before the curfew or they will be punished by their parents. While curfews can keep kids out of trouble many people believe that they don't fully prevent crimes from being committed at late hours.

Other statistics state only 15% of crimes committed by younger students happen after 10 pm. But even if the government were to set a curfew they wouldn't be able to keep every kid out of trouble. I think setting a curfew from your parents would be way more effective than it being over a whole town or state.

Some kids will also see the curfew as a challenge and want to stay out late just to break the law. Which would start even more trouble. Most crimes committed are from kids that go driving around all night and never go home. Most kids that do this lie to their parents about where they are going so their parents don’t know they're staying out all night. Even now kids stay out later than their curfew and still never get caught.

  • Great topic choice and well done Jaylee! Be sure to always link your sources and also be sure to write more than "I agree", Even when I take those out, you still are at #1 trhis week. Great job!

  • I personally believe that having a curfew is reasonable, but only if it is at a reasonable times like during the week the curfew whould be 10:00 to 10:30 I think and the weekend should be at like 12:00 or even 12:30 if it is possible but I think having a curfew is fine.

  • I think curfews should be a reasonable time. For instance, weekday curfews should be 10;30. And Friday nights and weekend nights be later such as 12:00. But I think curfews should ultimately be set by parents. I think curfews only tempt kids to be out later than the curfew just to see what happens and break the law.

  • I think that curfews should be up to the parents. Its their job to make sure their kids are making good choices, and no matter how late you stay out, you can get in trouble if your making bad choices.  I personally dont really care if someones curfew is later or earlier.

  • I personally don't think that curfews that are enforced by the law help anything, because that isn't going to stop a teenager from going out late at night and doing whatever they want. I think that curfews should be set and enforced by their parents instead of the city.

  • I think curfews are just a dumb thing to have. It doesn't stop kids from doing bad things and maybe kids like going out at night. I personally think that they should just not have curfews and if they don't change that just make it later that whatever it is right now.

  • I think there should not be a curfew and the law should just hvae your parents make that choice on how late you can be out. I think curfews could be a tad bit later.

    • i agree, or the cerfew should be later

  • I think that curfews do help keep kids out of trouble. I think that if parents have a curfew for their children it, then there kids will try to get home by that time because it is more likely they'll get caught. However, I do think the curfew should be later.

    • i agree
