Disney's Frozen

When Walt Disney died in December 1966, it only took a few months before the crazy rumor that Disney had his body frozen so he could be revived in the future The rumor even goes one step further to say he is buried in a freezer under the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. Of course there is no actual evidence that this is even true.

Some people believe that Disney producers made the movie Frozen and titled it as such to distract people from that theory and hoped one day it would be forgotten entirely. Before the movie was made you could search “Disney Frozen” and would get tons of articles on the conspiracy theory, but now you get the movie Frozen. It takes a bit more effort to find out about it. And not to forget the fact that when you hear those words you automatically think of the movie not the conspiracy theory.

Another reason is the title switch. The movie Frozen was based on Hans Christian Andersen’s 1844 fairytale: The Snow Queen. Disney could have kept the original title like they did with most of their other fairy tales they adapted from the Brothers Grimm’s stories. So they could have named it the same thing or something similar, but they went out of their way to create a whole new title.

But why would they do this even though the rumors weren’t true? Disney has a very friendly, family brand and wants to protect that. They didn’t want to be associated with this wild theory of Walt Disney. The part of him being buried under a popular ride could be enough to keep a few families from visiting too.

I first heard about these conspiracies a few years ago on tiktok but I never really looked much into it. I don't believe that Walt Disney had his body perserved in ice to be revived in the future, it just seems to crazy to be true plus all the facts stand against it. I think it is definitely possible that Disney producers title the movie the way they did to stop media from spiraling and causing problems.

Have you heard of these conspiracies before and where?

Do you believe Disney's body was perserved in ice and why?

Do you think the rumor was why the movie is titled Frozen and why?

  • Great topic choice and super job! Congrats on #1!

  • I have never heard of this conspiracy before. I think it would make sense that the rumor is the reason that the movie is titled from, but I'm not sure if that is actually why it's titled that.

  • I have never heard these conspiraces before and reading this left me really shocked. I think that that is a super crazy concept that someone thought of to bring to the world's attention. It is most likely a rumor that someone thought of in order to stir up drama. I think it is pure irony that frozen came out later.

    • The funny thing is it was totally just a rumor some guy thought of to make some drama. It was about a month or two after Walt Disneys dealth and some guy, I think he was a janitor or something like that, started telling people that he saw Walt Disney's body incased in ice in a freezer, but there was no proof.

  • I had never heard of this conspiracy, but to me it is completely false, why would someone do that? For what purpose? Besides the fact that it is supposed to be a place to live as a family, it is completely unrealistic. What I could agree with is that they released that movie with that title to stop the rumors.

  • No, I have never heard these conspiracies before. I don't think that Disney's body was perserved in ice, because after being buried in ice for that long, your body cannot be revived. Also, that would be a very cruel thing to do to the guy who founded Disney. I think the rumor about the title Frozen might be true. I think the producers didn't want everyone to get worked up about the conspiracy, even though it's wasn't true, so they created a distraction.

    • See I also think the title was a very clever idea to stop the rumors about the conspiracy from spiraling even more. Of course they had to take in consideration of what the movie was about to make it make sense, but they definitely succeeded in covering the rumors.

  • I hadn't heard of the rumor and I think it's to farfetched to be true. I do think this rumor probably effected the name of Frozen though. I have heard of this being a trick many companies use.  Make a popular google search with the words giving you trouble and the new results will burry the old articles.

    • See I also think that one of the reason they switched the movie title to frozen was to cover up the rumors that were going around about Walt Disney. I haven't heard of other companies using this trick, but it does make sense that companies want to subtly make people forget things.

  • I have heard about Walt Disney's frozen head, not his whole body, but it is definitely a conspirancy to talk a lot about, also very interesting and dark. I do not think Disney's body was perseved in ice because there's no way they could've done that, it does not make sense.
